Question about this "skinchanger"

Apparently I saw on facebook posts that people got GAME banned not VAC banned using skinchanger. They haven't use any walls or aim assists. It shows them they got overwatched for using it. Is this a bug or a feature?

Unless the ban message says "Ban reason: Skin Changer", it is just pure speculation. Plus such thing is clearly not visible via a demo.

Does it really matter if they got banned by VAC or Overwatch? Both bans are permanent and are not removed.

It matters to us as forum regulars. I previously thought all skinchanger game bans were Untrusted bans after the change that made untrusted show as game bans regardless of whether VAC also caught the account or not (until about 2 months ago, the VAC ban would take precedence if both VAC and Untrusted caught the account).

Not sure if it's bug but I've seen quite a lot threads about people using just skinchangers and it shows as major disruptive and game ban on profile

Because skin changer wasn't the primary reason of the ban. It was either A: cheating or B: griefing, depending if they received a ban for majorly or minorly disruptive.

There are strong rumours that VACNET can detect current and historic skin manipulations by cross-comparing the users inventory data with their in-game item history. If these are to be believed; this means that it can detect things VAC can't, plus hold users to account who used skinchangers in the past and got away with it.

Thousands of users were Game Banned when VACNET launched and the common excuse was 'I never cheated - just used skinchanger'. As users began to accept their permanent ban fate; they swore blind they never cheated.

Regardless; skinchargers warrant a permanent ban.

You cannot be "overwatched" for a skinchanger. Other players cannot see when you are using a skinchanger and report you for cheating. Someone overwatching a demo wouldn't see the skin either.

You don't have to be overwatched to receive a gameban.

Don't use skinchangers and you won't have anything to worry about.

as far i know, yes the skin changers will cause vac ban, maybe due is no just change textures, there are more treads about people being banned for that, in your place i wont risk my account for a diferent color in your weapon.

Valve re-added some old hooks to VAC and probably to confuse cheat developers getting detected by it shows as Majorly Disruptive game ban. Skin cangers counts as cheats due to the way they work

No, there has been no change.

Modifying the active memory of the game is a bannable offense.
