Can CheatEngine.exe cause a VAC ban?
I was recently wrongfully VAC banned in Team Fortress 2 and I'm trying to figure out why. I have a program that I use to speed up steam downloads called CheatEngine.exe, I don't use it in games only for speeding up steam downloads but I could have had it running while I played TF2. I've heard that the VAC system scans computers for suspiciously named .exe's while in VAC-protected games which CheatEngine probably comes under, so could this be what caused the false ban?

Yup as stated in the name CHEAT engine its for cheating. VAC doesnt scan for weird named .exes though because i could name my notepad.exe into csgoaimbothax.exe and i wouldnt get banned. Its what it does that affects your VAC ban. I could assume you might of unknowingly injected it but it doesnt affect your Vac either way considering valve rarely lifts VAC bans.

CE cannot speed up your downloads in any way, it's physically impossible. Guessing you read this nonsense from a troll youtuber or something.
If you want to speed up your downloads, contact your internet provider.

VAC does not scan your pc itself, otherwise pretty much everyone would be banned for having one thing or another on their desktop.
You injected CE into the game & VAC was triggered.

VAC bans are permanent, non-negotiable, and cannot be removed by Steam Support.

I definitely didn't inject cheat engine into the game although I had it running on my compuet during the game (not injected into tf2) at the time. I also used it to download the game but I know for a fact it was never connected to Team fortress 2 in any way other than being used to download it.

You can't use cheat engine to download games. Cheat engine's speedup feature doesn't affect internet download speed, only on how fast or slow a process is running.

Small prob, cheat engine doesnt make u download faster only your internet does, have you considered you might have not taken time to read that VAC bans are final and also taken time to analyze the only way to get banned is by HAVING CHEATS OPEN AND RUNNING so consider yourself a member of the cheater community.

This.

There are loads of legit programs that could do what cheat engine does, and you dont get bans for having them installed either. Injecting into processes and memory, thats the issue,

Because VAC has a database of knowm cheat programs and cheat engine is 1 of them. Also VAC only detects if it interferes with the game which he obviously did use it for that because why else woul he get banned?

I am not saying it was not Cheat Engine, although we will never know. I am saying it was injecting into a VAC secured game, accessing a VAC secured server.

OP says thats not the case, but since they also think it improves physics in the real world, I doubt taking their word for it.
