Facial recognition as another level on VAC secure games.

Perhaps it is time to consider facial recognition software.

TL/DR If you get banned your face gets banned.

Most gamers and most laptops have a camera. And anyone wanting a level above prime would be happy to get a camera to do so.

This could also be used to prevent someone else playing your VAC secure games or selling accounts (many of which are used to cheat) if it was used at login.

Thoughts?

Possible uses, to prevent someone using your account while afk (alt tab lock?)

If it only detects 1000 face types using it instead of guard if you have no phone, would stop 999 out of 1000 highjackers.

Perhaps the technology is a way off or some other person identifier could be used. EG. Verifying your account with photo id.

Should you be able to purchase trust?

If you have a better idea please talk about it.

May work well in future games were your live head is shown in game.

Possibly add phone steam guard finger print/s for verification.

Also add random movement requirement to prevent recorded video or webcam jacking. ( they already have your usernames and passwords steam account email and phone to making jacking your webcam viable at access your account to cheat )

Perhaps make it optional adding to trust level.

Consider other trust level factors:
Cheat history
Flagged by players
Age of account
Money spent on account
Other banable games on account
Hour of VAC games played
Facebook link
Other suggestions?

In short, ask yourself this one question. If this idea were viable, wouldn't they have implemented it by now?

They haven't, because it isn't.

So many people come here thinking they have this great idea that no one has thought of yet...and they're always wrong.

There have been a few "great ideas" that weren't around since the beginning, being added later, although they probably didn't come from user suggestions. The two I can think of are phone number sharing bans and VACnet.

Face recognition is not one of them.

Define unguarded? An account that gets hijacked and VAC banned, the account owner is still responsible for anything that happens to the account. Even someone else cheating on it , it doesn't matter who cheats on the account.... If an account cheats, it is banned. VAC does not care one bit about who was using the account when the cheating occurred.

Account security is the owners responsiblity. Doesn't matter whether the owner or a hijacker cheats on it. If the account is used to cheat the ACCOUNT is banned. Not the person.

Just as you made this statement I also made the statement pointing out that every form of Biometric data can already be compromised. Sure some will cost more and require more knowledge and equipment but they can all by compromised. There are too many complications and flaws in using biometric data in the way you propose.

It won't work and Valve will not invest the resources to code it all just for it to be a flawed and unworkable mess.

Also since the Steam api, cheaters have fools handing them accounts with reasonable trust levels.

I simply refuse to play with cheaters and if trust does work there are a lot of trusted accounts cheating.

Note: All this about slow internet and multiplayer, I have a MSI leopard i7 16gb 10706gb laptop and there are lots of places I can play online, including my childrens houses.

You guys really play the man not the ball, good luck at getting to be moderators if that is your intent.

how vac used to work was it issued a temp ban. the current system issues a permanent ban.

you are mixing scamming/hijacking with cheating, they are different. the scammers dont care about playing games, they want the inventory items you have. and to use your account to try and hijack your friends accounts.

any idea needs to be poked to see if it will hold water. if it falls apart, then people need to look for ways to make it work. some ideas just dont work, either they are too silly or just not economical.
