Vac Bans - All games
Could we try it out for a while, if you get banned for cheating on one multiplayer game you get banned from all vac enabled games? No more online for any of their games!

Bet it would have a big impact on the amount of cheats, and it would also make them easier to find as I bet they will end up with multiple accounts with just one game on each....

Please give this a try! I know it would upset a lot of the cheaters but hey isn't that the idea!

Not gonna happen, that would open a can of worms called class action lawsuits.

LOOK at your profile - no VAC ban.
Did you even read his text? :D

@OP Nope, just nope. Legal problems are one thing, money the other.

How would it leed to a lawsuit? surely if it is in steams terms and conditions it wouldn't be an issue? I mean they can revoke your steam account so how would it be any different?

It would make such a big change to cheating in games as well with the risk being so high!

Lawsuits for one. You can't ban someone from a game they did not cheat in.

For Source and Gold Source engine games, if you get VAC banned in one game, you will get banned in all of the games that uses the same engine. Other than that, VAC bans are individual to games and will only affect the game you've been banned on meaning you can still play other games.

You can block that Steam account from playing online though as long as it is in the ToS so lawsuits should be easy to avoid....

In fact, an all-encompassing VAC-ban happend in the past. It was for a "VAC disabler", which worked to a certain degree. From what I gathered, it indeed was able to hide cheat usage from VAC, but it wasn't able to hide itself. While this forum was boiling with posts spelling the end of VAC as this "VAC enabler" works and is undetected (because too many people can't use a dictionary to look up "delayed" as in "delayed bans"), it was actually a fun VAC bomb to watch go off.
Cathulhu Sep 21, 2018 @ 12:22pm
Well, yes and no. It disabled VAC on a system wide basis, not just for a single game. So, after it got detected, it got you banned in every VAC secured game you played. Not all games on an account.

The SSA has a section on cheating, I suggest you read it.

and this:

What games can I play if I have been VAC banned?
VAC banned accounts can still play single-player games, local LAN games, and multiplayer on non VAC-secured game servers. To find non VAC-secured servers, from the Steam main menu click on View, select Servers, then select Not secure in the Anti-cheat dropdown.

Cheating in one of the following Source games or a Source mod will result in a VAC ban for all games in the list below:

Counter-Strike: Source
Half-Life 2: Deathmatch
Day of Defeat: Source
Team Fortress 2
Similarly, cheating in one of the following Gold Source games will result in a VAC ban for all games in the list below:

Counter-Strike
Condition Zero
Ricochet
Day of Defeat
Team Fortress Classic
Half-Life: Deathmatch
Deathmatch Classic

That's as close to "all" as you're going to get.

Why would that be legal and what he suggested not be?

EULA's are not law binding documents, a company can put whatever they want into their terms and confitions but legally enforcing those terms is another matter completely.
