Question about abusive con var editing
From what I learned today is that a client side console command allows players to use wallhack. The method some cheats use is bypassing the sv_cheats 1.

The client side command "name" is blocked in the way that it cannot change to anything but your steam name. If someone decides to "cheat" the command "name", will he get VAC? Because it is "technically" a form of cheating since you can easily fool your opponents. If "name" manipulation is cheating my day is solved lol. Oh, and you can't manipulate "name" without any external program or something to the extent of my knowledge.

Can't really fool people who know that names are not what you should be looking at. SteamIDs are unique and should be what is noted.

The claim is see getting made a lot in the past is that cvar manipulation leads to a permanently untrusted ban, which then becomes a VAC ban within a day or two.

So if you manipulate "name" you get a permanent non-negotiable ban?

In CSGO it's quite likely. On other (older) source games it might not be the case. Depends on the method used and if VAC can detect it or not.

Correct. CVAR patching is one of the factors that are detected by VAC to be flaggerd as 'Untrusted' immediately on detection, until the application of the delayed VAC ban.

However in the actual case in-point, whether the use of this specifically restrictedto changing the 'name' command would also elicit such ban :-

I would argue yes. There's no advantage, nor need in checking to see which particular commands are affected and change behaviours accordingly - logically, if one is CVAR patching then one is exploiting the potential for cheats. This is sufficient to warrant action as per the SSA. The CVAR patching as a "functionality of software" COULD be employed to change "name", but it may also be used to change "r_drawothermodels" etc.

Review the (inttended catch-all ambiguity) wording of the SSA section regarding definition of "cheat"
