VAC Banned for Duping King Mods in Non-Vac Private Game Server
Dear Community,

I am writing this just to share my situation and frankly disappointment in the VAC system.

I have had this account for roughly 5 years and have never been VAC banned for anything before, I have even played Rainbow 6 Siege in a competitive environment before and would never condone cheating.

Now I have played Dying Light on and off for a while and the other day I went into a Co-op The Following mode playing with 2 friends in VAC-Off Servers (They have checked) whilst mine was also turned off.
As I have played through the whole game before on Xbox I thought it would be okay to dupe King Mods using cheat engine so that I could fully pimp out a legendary hammer which I got. My 2 friends knew about this. At no point did I ever enter anyone's public session with any kind of hack tool or anything at all. We never got invaded either by anyone as it was a private vac off game.

So the game continued as normal but to my surprise when I woke up in the morning I had been issued a VAC ban, very much annoying me as now I am labelled as a "cheater" within the steam community and secondly I cannot continue to play the game with my 2 friends, which as a result led me to un-install out of anger.
I understand banning those who have entered into others games and caused havoc using god mode etc and that is deserved. But I cannot fathom how I could have received a ban for playing in a private game with friends with VAC off for duping King Mods.

I have contacted Techland and they regrettably informed me that they have no access to steam accounts to overturn this, however gave me some information to contact valve.

I am not hopeful that this ban will be overturned as everywhere I look it says bans are not appeal-able for any reason despite me not having done anything malicious in a vac off server.

Lastly I am irritated at the fact that there is a feature to turn vac off within the game which clearly does nothing.
Please take this situation as a warning to be careful with any forms of non-malicious modding within dying light and to only do it in a completely offline environment as you can see turning VAC off in private games can still lead to bans.

I look forward to hearing back from the dying light community and thank you guys for taking the time to read this and/or respond.

Your Sincerely,
Battleaxe

Yeah sadly i hate to say it but Vac bans are completely un appealable" but sometimes will go away themselves if it was issued by mistake. Not saying yours may be removed as you admitted to using mods" but hopefully the system will realize it was a vac off game with friends and removes it by itself.

I was in the game with you at the time and all you did was dupe king mods. You didn't go into godmode or go into a random person's game or anything like that so I really don't know why you were banned. Hopefully you can get unbanned bro.

Whats the point of turning off VAC if the damn thing is just going to stalk you until you get VAC back on and ban you?

That just sounds like retarded design logic.

Yea I dont get it, seems really stupid to me.
If its your own server, VAC off, like my game is also, Steam really have no right to ban you for anything on your own server.
Problem is, the VAC system is basically trusted by to many, gives it the false impression its never wrong when clearly it is.
Software is so complex nowdays its really an arrogant position to not have a flexible policy around this thats evidence based at the very least.
Thats would not solve everyones problems but it would be a step in the right direction.

Steam have always been control freaks and have always had pretty sneaky business practices, hence why EPIC games and others are not as bad as people think lol !!!

So, is there STEAM bursting out your ears yet ?

First of all, let me start off by saying that yes, indeed you did nothing wrong. Duplicating a mod may allow you to use the modded weapon later on, but this does not affect other players AT ALL, as it doesnt put them in any scenario they cannot be if someone had not used mods. And the second thing i wanna say, is that no, bans are not appeal-able for most games, even if they were not done fairly. The reason why this happens is because our society is based on profit. All coorporations want is money, and that goes for most people you will meet in your life. Noone cares about justice, noone cares about what's right, and noone cares about making it up to other people for mistakes they have made. You have given them your money, now they dont care about you at all. Something similar happened to a friend of mine from school in player unknown's battlegrounds. So basically, his account got hacked (no, he wasnt tricked into clicking any stupid links or anything like that, so it was 100% not his fault), the hacker used cheats in the game, the next day, my friend gets his account back, and he finds out he has been permanently banned from a game he payed 20 euro for. He tried to appeal the ban, he explained everything, to the devs, but the typical coorporate c- ...... good people just told him that bans are not appealable, so now he lost his pubg account, and even if he wanted to pay money to re-purchase it, he wouldnt be able to do so. You can find other situation like yours and my friend's everywhere on the internet. And, like i said, the reason why this happens is because developers are no longer actually passionate about their projects, they just want to rip off their own fans.

Vac was not off if it was it would not have been able to get you banned. If its not on it cant work.

the thing is you could have used a MODDED file thats been made, for you because mods are allowed because they are implemented into the game before it starts, Editing the files while the game is running ie: using "cheat engine" because it changes the values of code. is breaking TOS and the VAC it be on or not it will ban/detect you and issue you with a VAC mark on your account.

Sadly VAC wont get removed because that was seen as hacking/manipulating files

sorry man.

Vac will not ban you if it is off and cant. Due to privacy reasons it cannot scan you PC for cheats unless its enable and then it can only check to see if a cheat has been injected into the game files of the game it is enable in and you are playing.

You can have cheat engine open (or any other method of cheating and be cheating in a game that has no security and start a game with VAC and if cheat engine is not cheating in the VAC secured game it will not detect cheat engine even if it on and in the back ground.

If you start a game server without VAC enabled (on the server) then it cannot detect cheats because it is not enabled.

You are allowed to start private games without VAC enable and cheat as much as you like. Its only public games that it matters in.

How can you be so certain that vac is such a flawless anti cheat system? Like i said, he knows what he is saying, it WAS off.

You should read how the system works. It is a delayed system It does not ban straight away. The op said he played one day then got the VAC ban the next. That is not how it works it takes weeks for a ban to be implemented. They have delayed bans so they can collect as much data on the cheat before its ban and the longer they wait the more people they catch. If they baned straight away the cheaters would know and just change some of the code in the cheat so its no longer detected. This way its too late for them.

Still, how are you so sure it works like that? They may have said it takes weeks for a ban to be implemented so they collect more information so that they can reassure people that they are responsible and they dont throw bans left and right. Since you probably dont program anti-cheat systems, you cant say for sure. But when someone says they had vac off, they know what they are saying.
