possible ban because of using msi afterburner with rivatuner statisticserver?
hello.
i read many discussions about my issue. and im not really satisfied to be honest, because i even found discussions where people asked for help because they got banned using msi afterburner with rtss.

so my question is.... is msi afterburner with rtss (rtss = rivatuner statisticserver) allowed in all steam games, without getting a ban?

this is what i want to do: i want to display my gpu and cpu temp on the left top corner in my games. reason: i dont want my computer to overheat. i want to monitor the temps of my hardware, so i can turn off the game before something serious happens. with the temp information i want to configure my fan speed, so its balanced and not too loud, but still cooling good. thats all what i want to do. and well ya, maybe taking screenshots with msi afterburner (you can set a key combination for taking screenshots in games.)

so.. am i safe to use msi afterburner + rtss? and what about software like amd radeon crimson relive (thats the driver and layout software for amd graphic cards. im asking this because its possible to overlock and change fan speed and stuff with that softwareo. is this ok with steam?)?
and lastly: what about software like speedfan from almico?

i didnt find a "safe list" on steam. would be really nice if steam makes a safe-to-use-software list so there are no worries anymore.

thanks for reading

None of that software will trigger a VAC ban. Those who told you that were lying.

You won't find a real list of safe programs to use as no details of what VAC bans for is known outside of the VAC team.

hello. thank you for your fast reply.
so you think, people who made threads about ban because of msi afterburner, in real they were banned because of other reasons? but they probably think it was because of msi afterburner, because it was turned on that day, when they got banned?

i dont even want to use msi afterburner for an online game. i want to play a single player offline game and monitor its temps.

No, they lie to get out of a ban.

people make up excuses, blaming any piece of software on their PC in hopes it will get their ban removed (and it does not)..

its the gaming version of a person a trial for assault yelling "it wasn't me, she fell down the stairs I tell you!"

oh okay. good to know.
im just curious.. are falsely vac bans even possible? does this even happen? and if it really happens and it was really some system error/mistake, will steam investigate the case? (sorry im just a scaredy-cat when it comes to these thing :D )

let me give an example.. i wanted to buy the game PUBG, but i read so many comments about false bans. because of streamers report for stream-sniping, people get banned (according to the comments). so it could be possible, that even just professional players can get banned if a streamer thinks it was stream-sniping.

cases like this one in the example i just gave, make me a bit uncomfy about using software or buying some games etc etc.

VAC actively rechecks itself.. in the unlikely case a ban is incorrectly applied (which is a bit less than 1% of the time if Valves numbers are to be believed) the system will revoke the ban upon reverification

as for PUBG, last I checked it does not use VAC.. although I have heard people claim the developers do love giving out game bans for it

Ok, please tell us: What makes the pinned thread invisible to most people? I'm genuinely interested.

i see. so some games are without VAC protection, and the game devs can decide on their own, if they ban/unban for a reported reason.

well okay if so many people say msi afterurner + rtss temp monitoring is allowed. i will use it then without fear.

to all: thanks for your advices/replies/answers guys

same reasons most people don't read rules on message boards.. they don't want to sift through a page of info dump, and instead for straight to posting..

heck, over half the time you suggest someone to read another thread to get the info they are asking for you get responded with "just tell me instead!"
XBL Laberbacke Dec 9, 2017 @ 9:41am
That wasn't a veiled insult. I want to understand how this is a blind spot for so many people. Not just you, especially the ones with banned accounts.

That might be part of the "an answer is only good if told me directly" mindset
