No SP for BO2 Zombies? (VAC)
Before I get roasted by various people, I'd like to state why there isn't a clearer warning about custom games in Black Ops 2 being VAC secured? In previous games such as WAW, I used cheat engine to gain points so that I could explore the map and I didn't get punished. Now only after my ban, I found out that custom games are also indeed VAC/TAC secured. I know that it's my fault for not searching for this before I used cheat engine, and that my ban cannot be reversed, but why isn't there a warning explicitly stating that custom games are VAC secured?

they dont need to tell you if a game is vac secured, in fact many are not even listted that they have vac running now,
ie: sniper elite 4?

its just how it is

First, as soon as its a MP mode (and it is), it's safe to assume its secured. Its possible (and weird) if it isn't, but you aren't entitled to that! Its like saying "Preciously, I could take a nap on the bench in tue waiting rea of the train station, now security wakes me up". Well, it was luck that you could do it previously, but don't expect it to keep on working.
Second, that's just Activision for you. MW2, their first game to use VAC, was a mess and later games don't have really improved. That's just Activision for you.

Thanks for the reply guys! I'm pretty sure that Treyarch only had to do with the black ops series, but regardless it is indeed frustrating. At this point I just hope that they put clearer warnings on their games in the future (BO3 ended up allowing custom maps in zombies).

Also in response to your analogy ReBoot, I don't believe that World at War was VAC/TAC secured, so there wasn't any way I could have gotten banned on that game. However, Black Ops 2 custom games are VAC secured (something which I wasn't aware of) and I thought that it was only forbidden if I played online. I just wish I had known sooner though. :/

This is something you need to take up with the developers of the game.

@Snaggle, the developers don't run VAC nor do they have any power over it. Thus, asking about this topic to them would only link me back to steam support (in which I most likely won't even get a response).

How would VAC have any control over message boxes or additional text in game? The developers would need to add those to their game.

I suppose in that case I could give it a try. However, for such an old game, I'll probably recieve a non-detailed response that won't be helpful.
Snaggle Oct 17, 2017 @ 3:54am
Most likely.

Wow, custom maps. Something that non-CoD games have had for years. What in want to say is, CoD games have been a mess for years. To be more precise, common sense rules don't apply.

However, "as soon aa its MP, consider VAC always-active" is a good rule of thumb.

Yup, I agree with all of your points there. Even games like Unturned have an option for singleplayer with cheats (it uses battle eye, but similar concept) so that you can't get banned unless you intentionally cheat to get an advantage over another player. For your second point, I'll be a lot more cautious in the future, but I'm just frustrated I've been marked as a cheater on a moderately high level account for something such as this.

If it makes you feel any better, you aren't the only one. When MW2 came out, not few players were, lets say, surprised by Activision. No customizing at all. Use a console unlocker to get something that has been in FPS for literally decades? Ban. Use a FoV unlocked to remedy the objectively existing FoV problem? Ban. Use any sort of mod, even a tiny HUD change? Ban. That's Activision for you.

Pretty dumb stuff. I'll just steer clear of their future releases and probably limit myself to WAW. I'll also be sure to be more careful regarding VAC secured games. Thanks for the help guys!
