CS 1.6 updates & VAC
Hi there,

regarding the newest updates in Counter-strike 1.6 client, I've noticed a growing number of people getting VAC banned and complaining as usual that they haven't used cheats, it's a mistake, it's because of scripts/models etc. I usually don't trust those excuses but as i mentioned "a growing number" of them have appeared recently, and my question is: Has anything changed in VAC system or CS 1.6 with new updates? Can you get banned for using custom player models or scripts (.cfg not .exe)?

Hope for a non-sarcastic answer, thanks in advance!

You can check the Counter Strike update blog here http://steamcommunity.com/games/10/announcements/detail/1423551455081754809 or on the store page. But the way VAC system works is a bit mysterious and valve doesn't let much out to prevent cheaters working over it even easier than they currently do.
Thanks for the reply,

I've read the blog, but also noticed there were smaller updates without any update informations after that one. Also I tried contacting Steam support regarding this topic, but since they can be only contacted directly through my Steam application, whenever I click on the "Open Steam client" option it just shows me a blank window in my Steam client.

I explored this topic before, and found that lots of people said you can't get VAC ban for any custom model or .cfg scripts in Counter Strike 1.6, but now I'm not sure have they changed that or not :/

You can't be banned for custom models unless you use some sort of executable or you run a third party program to enforce them, replacing texture files will allow you to play with some clientside changes but you wont get VAC banned, many players in 1.6 do this for years with nothing happening. The worst that will happen is that the server files wont match to yours and you wont be able to play on that server but you should only get banned if you use cheats.

That's what I'm hoping for, I've been using custom models for years now, and just got a bit scared i would say because of many VAC banned people who are saying they got banned because of models or scripts. But I guess like any cheater, they're just trying to justify them selves then. I guess I'll take your word for it and continue to play with my custom models, thank you.
