VAC just for searching cheats in steam-browser
How it;s possible? No installed hacks/cheasts, Van just for searching them in steam browser.. Is there any point in Vac RULES that say that?

no. just no...
Albcatmastercat 12/fev./2017 às 13:30
That makes no sense at all.
Brujeira 12/fev./2017 às 13:35
That account isn't even VAC banned...
... No. However, I do wonder why you (or whomever else) would search for them, if the user did not intend to use them. Not accusing, of course ... just a thought.

Probably sticking their nose where they aren't meant to; you know, curiosity.

Sorry I was late to the party, but when I saw that moronic title I had to chime in.

The VAC system does flag an account when browsing for cheats and browsing known cheating websites. However, the level of such flags are not to be misunderstood as a VAC ban, until you take the action of downloading "X" cheat, which results in reviewal flags. This is public information.

Short version: You won't be banned for browsing a website, but VAC does monitor web history, DNS cache history, etc. The best safety net to have is simply don't cheat, or go searching for them.

Research i.e.

I also guess some people are just curious, and others search to download and use of course.
Only searching wont get you banned, thats for sure.

VAC doesnt monitor such things, nor could it even do so, depending on your setup.
The DNS part you are mentioning is about the DRM of installed cheats.

Bans are delayed by days to weeks so what he was doing at the time was irrelevant.

Edit he got a permanently untrusted ban?

Cvar hacking then. 100% correct

How do you know what your "friend" has or doesn't have installed on his computer?

Also, would this be a "friend" like this one (STEAM_0:1:41298627), who has a Steam account using the name "Vizi" the exact same one as you and has a VAC ban? Or are you talking about *another* "friend" who has been VAC banned recently?

It sounds like you're trying to ask about streaming (not searching) cheats through a browser. Yes, you can still be VAC banned or gamebanned if you use streaming cheats from a website. This doesn't protect you from VAC.

I'm more curious about why you were looking at cheats.

As I understand the ONLY such scrutiny by VAC wqas in a brief check for DNS records for a PARTICULAR occurrence of a specific domain IP for a KNOWN CHEAT payment DRM server.
Even so this check was ONLY EVER employed when sufficient evidence was already gathered in data from a suspected account and thios check was only as a cross-reference with the existing evidence that the cheat itself was present.

This practice was only relevant for a short period (few months at MOST) and since that DRM is no longer in effect, Valve no longer require VAC to check for it.

This was quite well publicised due to the knee-jerk reactionary misunderstandings and accusations at Valve for "snooping" as result.

If you have ANY source to the contrary, I'd be interested to hear it.
