I've also just got the 8x, are these third party apps any good/trustworthy? I would prefer a valve app though.

Personaly i wouldn't Trust them

I've read through this thread and cannot believe what I'm reading. So much misleading information. People say WP7/WP8 is dead, has no future etc. Guys please update your information. Being a WP developer myself i noticed that download numbers of my apps doubled/trippled since the release of WP8 and are still rising more and more. Second many friends and developers of iOS are switching to WP development currently due to Apples behaviour on pricing, communication in case of failed submission etc. With Nokia Microsoft has an experienced and powerful partner who is finally doing the advertising that should have been started with WP7.
Yes you are right when you say that the Microsoft marketplace is very small compared to Android Play and iPhones marketplace but it's very fast growing.

I developed one of those 3rd party apps for WP7 (SteamCenter) and I would be more than happy if Valve would release an official app. SteamCenter was developed since I was jealous on my friends having a Steam app for their iphones and I also wanted to chat with my cell phone.

I'm pretty sure Valve will release a WP version of the their app. Why do I think that? First of all I know what Gabe said about Windows 8 in general. What we shouldn't forget is that beside the Linux and Mac version, Windows is still the most important market (most games, most users etc). There is no way around Windows 8 so you can be pretty sure that an update for the Steam client is already in development for Windows 8 with tile support and all that fancy Windows 8 features you can imagine. This process is not an easy task since the Steam client is developed in C++ using 3rd party libraries and without knowing the structure of the steam client I can imagine that porting a code-base like this to a completely different runtime is like rewritting the complete code. With this in mind you can be pretty sure that a branch or at least a by product of this development process will be a WP Version. This would be an easy task if they have to rewrite their code-base to make it conform with the Windows 8 guidelines. If so (and I know this could be a very time-consuming task without knowing one line of code of the client) they would be able to use pretty much of their code-base for the other devices. The future of Microsofts OS will from now on build on W8 instead of some sort of WinXP and so Origin and Co will take "advantage" of all that fancy stuff of the new OS, so who thinks that Steam which is still way ahead of all other dds won't head the same way. Of course I could be completely wrong and since Valve is Valve and is always successfull with their decissions maybe they won't jump on that Windows 8 train and will prove me and all others who believe in a Windows 8 version of the Steam client wrong.

Until the day we receive a Steam client "windows 8" update can pass days, weeks or most probably months, but when that day comes it will be only a matter of time until a Windows RT version and for me more important a WP version will arrive. Of course until then the WP will have his place beside Android and IOS and hopefully until then the WindowsPhone marketplace will grow and grow.

Windows Phone's Sell up to 200% here in belgium at the moment alot of windows phone's ar sold out in media store's i was lucky i had the last one
Dimi 2013 年 2 月 28 日 上午 4:44
thats exactly what I'm talking about. 200% and sold out shops is pretty good for a dead platform :)

To be fair Windows Phone is selling very well on Europe but it isn't on the USA. That might be the reason some people think it's dead (presumably US people) while some of us think it's doing great (European people).

I agree with DG. WP8 has grown much here in Norway as well. I've have Windows Phones since the first Windows Phone 7 came out here, and it is fun to see other people with the same device. I would love an Steam app

personally i cant see why theres no new'z of it being under development for windows phone 8 yet. i know windows announced OS codenamed "windows blue" releases this year aswell but that its 100% compatible with windows 8 apps and most likely will inherit its name and reason its specified as another OS is since they announced they want to make frequent updates and nomore huge service pack downloads. so the excuse is making a new OS most likely free when making major changes. windows 8 and wp8 has a great future ahead of itself and more and more are using it. so i am just asking. when is steam mobile released for wp8 ? its a huge market
Giffbombs 2013 年 3 月 7 日 上午 4:11
Get a diffrent phone
Bor 2013 年 3 月 7 日 上午 4:16
Yeah...I'm gonna get a different phone just so it will be easier for Valve to get my money. Right.
Giffbombs 2013 年 3 月 7 日 上午 4:43
Well if my phone didnt have steam then i would get a new phone.
Bor 2013 年 3 月 7 日 上午 5:42
That's a matter of choice I guess, I can live without Steam app even though it would be nice to have it. In the end it comes down to a million or so Steam users that can't buy games on the go. I'm no economist but that sure sounds like a lot of lost money.

Even when I fully support Steam for Windows Phone, in honor of truth I'll say you can just use the web browser to buy.
And with the recent addiction of the web chat there's no real advantage in both Android or iOS of the app vs the web other than performance and push notifications.
Bor 2013 年 3 月 7 日 上午 8:10
As far as I heard people have problems going through with payment with browser, maybe things have changed from WP7 to WP8. I'll try when I make another purchase (which may not be very soon).
