Use a standard for 2 step authentication instead of your own codes. All (big) companies are using TOTP (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time-based_One-time_Password_Algorithm) that can be used on all platforms. But no, Steam has to use it's own 'standard'... And now there is an unofficial app for Windows Phone? That makes the Steam Guard totally insecure (the unofficial app knows your username, password AND Steam Guard code..)

Very good points but I'm afraid Steam/Valve doesn't give a flying *bleep* because they have some vendetta against Microsoft and they don't want to cripple their cash flow by giving some of it to a 3rd party authenticator company.

Thanks Darkwen, I just started using this and yes, it works. Pretty sad that Steam hasn't gotten onboard with this yet & we have to use an unofficial app. Thankfully Microsoft got onboard.

an app cannot be added to windows phone for the same reason that bank apps dont exist- the windows phone is the most insecure phone, it can easily be remote controlled and downloading any app will put you at risk. Also, there are so many less windows phones than android and ios. I have a windows phone, and nothing else, however i am pretty sure its close to impossible to make a secure app on it.
