Steam on a Tablet
I'm thinking of getting a tablet but I can not find any confirmation whether Steam works on tablet devices. Has anyone tried/got this working and are you able to play the games from your Steam account?

The games would not be compatable with regular tablet OS's unless you had something like a Windows 7 Tablet, but then you have to consider the internal specs to see if the game would actually play.
As for Steam, I'm pretty sure you can get an App for Ios/Android to chat with your friends and check the store. (Although I'm not certain, so don't hold me to that.)
The current answer is no, assuming you're talking stock iPads, Androids or Surface tablets. There is a Steam app for Android and iOS, but you're not going to be playing any games using that. At most, you'll be chatting with friends and buying games.

If you were considering a Surface tablet, hold off for now. I believe in December Microsoft will be releasing Surface tablets with (real) Windows 8 as opposed to Windows RT. The current Surface tablets are all RT, which won't even be able to run traditional Windows programs. Those can only run Windows Store apps. But the Surface tablets that will have Windows 8 (non-RT) will be able to run Steam and games just fine...though the hardware in those may not provide an enjoyable experience when playing a lot of the AAA games that require some decent hardware. I'd imagine most indie games will do just fine on them, though.
Cheers to the both of you for the info. When I couldn't find much info on the web about this topic I had the feeling that it may not be possible. Perhaps I'll wait until next Christmas for a tablet, fingers crossed by then they may have the hardware support to run games/software. Thanks again.
The real Win8 tablets are the first tablets I've actually had any interest in. Because they have, you know, a real operating system on them!
I just got an Asus TF300, and I can confirm that there is indeed a steam app, and that you can do everything except for access your library/play games...O.o. still...i dun think tablets were meant for gaming, although I have installed snes emu, gba, and n64 which i can play with my bluetooth controller but it's not a beast of a pc lol

I think people just mix up Windows 8 tablets with iPads and Android devices. On a non-RTWindows 8 tablet, you can use Steam and play games (not everything will run or work). Civ5, for example, fully supports the touch interface and even gestures.

On the iPad, you can use the Steam app to access the store and some community features. Sinfe Steam doesn't sell iOS games, you cannot play anything from your library.

Thank you.
Yes, you can, i am downloading it on my android tablet right now.
The Steam App it's perfect for keep you updated about offers, for example. And when u get back to home, probably u could want a PC to play (much better than in any tablet)
I've played a few non-damanding games like Bastion and Super Meat Boy on my Surface Pro. It works great, especially with an xbox 360 controller.
Is it possible to play Steam games from my library on a new android tablet?
