Steam Mobile Login fix for Android 5.1
I have Android 5.1, I had the same Steam Mobile Login problem where pressing the login button does nothing.

After I updated "Android System Webview", I was able to log in.

Other people have also confirmed that this works for them.

This is a solution that will only help some people.

This obviously will not help people using Apple, or people with different versions of Android that do not have "Android System Webview" to update.

If this works for you on other versions of Android, please let me know your Android version below.

If you find another fix for other different versions of android, feel free to share it.

I do not need to know if it does not work for you, I already know that this will not work for everyone.

(I originally posted this on June 30th. But since it still has not been fixed, and some people cannot read even the first page of a thread, I am posting it as a separate thread.)

Who has Android 5 devices still? I hate waste, but 5.1 that's ancient, what maker device is it?

I do.

As do the other people who said thank you in this thread, and several people in the original thread. Quite a few people in the original thread use even earlier versions.

I would prefer to use my 4.2.2 tablet, I gave up on using Steam Mobile on it because it doesn't work on it any more, despite the minimum requirement being Android 4.0.

It is utterly irrelevant whether you think that Android 5.1 is ancient. The minimum requirement is Android 4.0.

It's kinda sad that you're posting in a solution thread looking to argue with people about the age of their Android devices.
It's kinda sad that you've been fooled by the tech industry that you should constantly buy new hardware.
It's kinda sad that you're trying to version-shame people like this.

edit: I was right, just looking to argue. Thanks for the thread bump!

WOW ?

you are not really reading me well today are you. I should not even bother to defend myself, but when people don't read
"...I hate waste"
and answer my honest question with a rant it's asking for me to waste my time. Basically Steam is full of anonymous people, you know nothing about me and you seem to want to hate me already. Do not fall into the trap, its what they want you to do. Be the change, answer the effing question Device maker and model please? Sending hate out will do sweet fanny all for your issue, don't you see how the hate is owning you?

Yes I have an old android 4 device but it's totally junk for browsing, let alone running an app that was never meant to run on it. You are wanting this just for the authenticator? right?

I used one, but few days ago its battery inflated and finally died. It's not so ancient, only 7 years old. In most third-world countries people don't buy new phones every few years, so it's quite common to have such devices.

I'm working on a new project, where sadly we are unable to support android 7 devices anymore. We used to have a limit of Android 6 on one of our apps, but luckily very few customers were on version 5. Which was why I was asking, because it felt really evil to cut those people off. My first Android is long dead, but I'm saddened at the pace which we roll forward at. Even though as a Software engineer, that's the easiest route to retaining our own sanity.

Thanks!

Sorry that some kind of people always want to argue about anything they can!

No probs. Just as an opp-topic. I spent a while hunting for small cellphones today. 2019 was the last year that any modern phones smaller than 6" were made, that's just crazy, almost like people have bigger hands now than they did 10 years ago. Things are not built to last! I'm surprised the battery on some older phones still works, I have some 6 or 7 year old devices with nonworking or danger batteries. Which have to be plugged in to be used, but cannot be left on charge for fear of fire. I even have one of the special South-Korean-Landmine phones, ha ha.

Thanks for the fix, I updated Android System Webview and it works now.
