Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator - honestly, what where you thinking, Valve?
As with many others here, I opted in (which I deeply regret) to the Mobile Authenticator thingy, which seemed to work ok up until I was forced to factory reset my phone.

Then the Steam app asks for a mobile authenticator code to login - does no one test these things? How can the Mobile App ask for a code that the App itself is supposed to provide? What happened to an SMS recovery option?

Why do we have to go through support hell and stay locked out of our accounts due to this incredibly convoluted and frankly unecessary security scheme?

As for the Recovery code, it should at least be sent via SMS or email to you once. Trying to copy paste the R-code in Android (via multitasking) results in the code screen vanishing and the next screen popping up.

I opened a ticket with support, I hope they reply within the next month or so!

Horrible, horrible idea this authenticator. They should take a page out of Facebook - their authenticator works even when you move on to a new phone without recovery codes or such nonsense.

P.S. Thankfully my main gaming rig is still logged in to Steam. I hope it stays that way until I support gets back to me!

The mobile authenticator signup pages are glitchy and ugly. The mobile app is not secure or mature enough to support this, and the recovery situation is terrible.

Lots of people break and lose their phones. Lots.

Tons of phones get stolen.
Tons.

Can't really remember the last time I dropped my gmail account on the sidewalk or someone broke in and carted it off though. Seems to me that a solid password on my gmail account that is different from my steam password is better security than this mobile app.

The whole idea is as half baked as all other mobile authenticators and people should just start using proper and unique passwords for their email and steam account.

Really loving these stupid holds to annoy you into opting into this half-baked ball of idiocy. :angry_creep:

What's even worse is why this damn thing is required EVERY time you need to log in? Seriously I had happily opted-in for this but after being asked for the damn code after 5 everydays login (yes, I don't keep password saved and then I have to log in every time I open Steam. How ironical huh) I got annoyed and disabled the thing.

Seriously, why cannot it memorize the network as several others authenticators out there does and ask for the code only if something changes? Does it really have to ask for it at EVERY login? I don't keep my phone connected 24/7 and neither have Steam app running whole time!

Now, becase I disabled this annoying thing for more than 7 days I'm locked out of trading for 3 damn days... I'm better selling those cards on market then and hoping this damn thing isn't required for it too... :madelf:

gaben and valve only concern about the money! IF there is another kind of steam and have dota2 and csgo on it, i would rather use it than this steam ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥! it only make worst about steam trading.. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥!

I just go screwed by this today. The login reset on my app so I had to login again for the first time. Yet, it asks my for a code that I can't see as I'm NOT LOGGED IN. It's a damn if you do damn if you don't.

So I click one of the options that allows me to get a text message of the code. It basically said something about use this phone for steam guard, which I'm already doing, but it does send a text for a code to login.

However, this totally reset my mobile authenticator and now I have to wait another 7 days before not getting 3 day trade holds. What a crock!

What was I supposed to do in this situation?

valve ur a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ prick i wait for 7 days then it logs me out of steam and i type my code in and it says error and i have to wait another ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ 7 days and it happens again
