Need Help Setting Up Steam Mobile App on Emulator
The Mobile App will be almost necessary soon for trading on Steam, and since I have no smartphone, nor any use for one, I've been trying to set up the mobile app on an emulator, which many users have reported doing successfully.

I have opted for the Android Virtual Device method via the Android SDK. I'm not sure third-party emulators like Andyroid are trustworthy, as they may be trojans/malware themselves (as far as I can tell, Andyroid is not open source).

Running on Windows 7 32 bit w/4 gigs of usable RAM (8 physical may be upgrading to 64 bit soon so I can use all of it and run more games). I have JDK8 installed, Intel x86 Atom System Image installed for Android 6.0 (API23), and Intel x86 Emulator Accelerator (HAXM) installed. AVD parameters - Device: Nexus S, Target Android 6.0 - API Level 23, CPU Intel Atom (x86), 512(k?) RAM/VM Heap 16 (tried values up to 700, anything above 768 doesn't work), 200 MB internal storage, 2 GB SD Card (tried 2000 MB as well), Use Host GPU enabled.

The emulator runs somewhat slowly as expected, but tolerably thanks to HAXM, at least for a while. When I go to store.steampowered.com/mobile and attempt to download the Steam Mobile App from the direct download link, I invariably get the error message: "Unfortunately, Browser has stopped." I've tried deleting the AVD and making a new one multiple times. I've tried clearing the browser cache/bookmarks/etc. I also tried the Google Play download link. After signing in and attempting to install, it tells me I don't have any devices. On further investigation, it appears that Google Play might not be installable - it has to be either preinstalled or you can't get it. I'm not sure if this is accurate or not. Also, at this point (after loading 2-3 web sites), the browser on my virtual device usually stops working - load screens that don't end, errors loading pages it loaded a minute ago.

Please help. Other people have gotten this working, so I should be able to as well.

1. Use bluestacks
2. if the app needs phone functionality - you're in trouble. Though if it sends sms and you have to input that manually - it shouldn't be a problem.

Is bluestacks any more trustworthy than Andyroid? Does anyone know if cnet reviews the source code of the programs it hosts?
