No smartphone. How do I trade without a hold?
I am really disliking this new feature that Valve has added recently. I personally don't have a smartphone. I don't have enough money to buy one (and I have no income), so I don't plan to buy one in the near future. However, I'm experiencing problems with trading. A 3-day trade hold has been enforced on anyone not using the Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator thing, but I obviously cannot get it. Is there any way to bypass this restriction, or am I pretty much stuck with the hold indefinitely until I am able to buy a smartphone? If anyone knows anything, it'd be a great help! Thanks!

I haven't tried Bluestacks so I don't really know, but if you use the WinAuth program you don't have to go through an Android emulator. You can download WinAuth for free on your computer.

I already did, but heres the thing... I don't have Dota 2 in my PC since the internet connection cant handle the download. I play Dota 2 outside like in comshops. So do I have to download WinAuth from there to get my codes? If so, do I need a code to login to the Steam Mobile Authenticator from there? That's what's confusing me atm..
Ohh, I see.
Hm... well, if you have to sign in from a different computer every time, then yes, you should download WinAuth on each computer and set it up each time... which is surely a bother, because unless you use the same computer every time, you'd have to remove the previous authenticator and set up a new one, each time. The only alternative I can think of is having someone back at home to call and have them tell you the code on screen while you log in at the comshop.

Or maybe... a laptop? Do you have a laptop? If you do, you could download WinAuth there, set it up, and bring it with you at the comshop to use the authenticator to log in to Steam.

These are the only solutions I can think of right now, sorry... but if you're in that position, then maybe you'd be better off buying a cheap Android smartphones? I think there's some that are under 80€.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking but I got some back up codes and tried them and it worked! I only got 30 back up codes. But if I use 1 code in 1 comshop, will I be able to login from there without using another code?

Hmmm... only if you don't log out of the Steam client on that single computer.

Great so I should be on the same computer?
Yes, and you should be careful not to log out of Steam. But... frankly, I would advise against it. I mean... it would mean leaving the Steam client logged onto your account, which has access to your credit card information and Steam wallet, on a public computer that anyone could use. It's... not very safe, to put it lightly.
Bypass? Guess what: You get 15 day holds now. 3 day hold? Gaben should strike you for your insolence! You need more than two weeks, poor pleb! Oh by the way, buying items off the market will result in a week-long trade-hold anyway, that being if you actually do have a phone and use the SMA. But hey, as the bottomfeeders would say, "Stop using the service."... Because it makes so much sense to expect people who pay hundreds of dollars for games to just be able to stop like that everytime Valve implements a ludicrous policy! Welcome to Gabe Newell Business Machine 2016!

Yeah, for now I'm using the backup codes and once I used them all, I'll be generating another till I have Dota 2 in my computer. (Y) Thanks for answering all my questions bro. I really appreciate it. :)

If you don't have a smartphone, you can download WinAuth like me. I use WinAuth as my Steam Mobile Authenticator. Search it on Google. Btw, WinAuth is for PC. So CHEERS to those who doesn't have any smartphone!

No problem :steamhappy:
I like how it's a 15 day hold now -_-
Saying it's a superior security measure is a lame cop-out. A trained guard dog is a superior security measure over an alarm system, but few peple have trained guard dogs. An RPG would be considered a superior weapon to a stubnosed .22, but let's face it, it can cause a lot of problems in a lot of circumstances. Different scenarios require different measures. IMHO, not having a smartphone to loose/get stolen/getdsamaged beyond use is more secure than having one that would prevent me from using a vast array of services if any of the above happened.

Those who trade liberty for security end up with neither. Allow me to decide what level of security I feel i need for MY account.
