You're totally right! I don't even know why I said you can't gift games straight away. I bought then gifted a game last night.... Sorry, it's too early for me....
Wasn't talking about trading/gifting game!
Was talking about the actual purchase!
If i have money in steam wallet (or linked card or paypal in that matter), i shouldn't be able to use the steam wallet and actually purchase any game for 3-15 days because i'm not using app and my account is not secured (valves logic)
I guess that would make buying last minute christmas and birthday gifts an issue then, wouldnt it. I wonder how much that will cost them if they were to do that..
And bringing up past "statistics" is pointless, as this 15 day hold garbage is new. And its effects wont be known for atleast a couple months. The 3 day hold was lame as it was, but it was atleast tolerable. 2 weeks is not. My guess is, its going to cost them alot.
ps: and beerhead is right. They dont seem very concerned about our steam wallets and any money in them. I can tell you right now that i would be far more concerned about actual funds in the wallet than trading cards and ingame items that are mostly worth a few nickles.
The only way this would make sense is for people with very expensive valuable items that actually need protecting. And only for them. I dont need protection for trading cards and backgrounds and a few TF2 items.
It doesn't cost money to recieve text messages, only to send, hence your argument is literally invalidated as they don't require you to reply to a text containing a one time code that you input in to the client
Also, texts cost like 10p over here and are included in most contracts and even pay as you go plans offer bundles where you can buy a bundle of texts up front and reduce the cost
Well most games these days tend to require steamworks so you get a key to activate the game on steam which means you're still ending up back here, also, the minority that care about this wont really make a dent in the profits for steam so they won't care
Well just like everyone else your taking a guess lets just wait and see, would be cool if this force more game dev's to also sell there game as a product outside of steam kinda pref that alot of the times.
They only care about trading, because that is the point THEY are loosing money. They are not interested in saving our money. Remember money talks. And if they loose money on trading, it cries out to them.
It is NOT!
Its simple discrimination and i'm not ok with that at all! Valve discriminates poor people that simply can't afford buy certain device, it is really simple as that!
For those "smartheads" that were talking that BS about car insurances (like go tell the you won't pay see what happens)and comparing the valve policy to other stuff
here is something that you can compare this valves policy to:
sell movie ticket to african-american than not to let him see the movie because majority of the people in cinema are white, so he has to wait till enough african-americans come and buy tickets about (3-15 days)....than see whats going to happened.
Discrimination is discrimination.
And unless valve puts the opt out, it will be discrimination and thats why i'm not ok with that crap.
They could simply put opt out button, with the warning that if you did opt out you will not have lost items restored period
and simply make a bot for those people that would send support ticket to check if they did opt out and the bot would have simple answer "you are stupid, you did opt out"
It would be ok imo if after you opt out you couldn't trade/sell for 3-7 days if they care that much about security and hijacked accounts, so those legitimately hijacked still have 3-7 days to do something about it.
Security this ,security that, blah blah blah,
if someone is stupid no phone app going to help him.
And seriously i don't see difference from using gmail where you have already 2 way authentication and that app that doesn't work on all phones
If they are abusing it - its time to end this.
+1
about 90% sure you are teenager that gets everything from mommy and daddy and lives in world with rainbows and flying unicorns
there is lots of people that simply can't afford to buy smart phone ,
i have friend that i play with that is on disability and he is lucky if he saves $50 by the end of the month, for sure he won't be spending his little savings on smartphone.
Also that someone owns PC doesn't mean he/she has $2000 game rig
And yea just go read around kid, there is plenty people without phones around the forums that are simply pissed because they getting discriminated for not having smartphone
I recently bought a decent spec Android phone off ebay for £30 and it wasn't the cheapest there. That's half the price of a new AAA game....
If people can't afford that, they probably have better things to do than waste time on Steam.
