Steam’s failing payment system on mobile
I tried to purchase Stellaris during the sale that’s going on, went through the payment system only to get an error, not only that but I was also charged now it’s a pending transaction that could take days when the sale only lasts till the end of the weekend, now I’m aware that steam grants you an extra 72 hours from purchase with the discount so I can purchase it again incase I get refunded but I also wanted to purchase the Utopia DLC and I can’t do that until I have the base game in my library, so now not only am I in a position where I can’t get the most essential dlc for this game that’s on sale but I don’t even have the game itself I’ve tried to see if steam could resolve it but the customer service is as helpful as a legless horse so does anyone know or have any ideas to deal with this?

I also tried to repurchase the game only leading to the same problem so now I’ve essentially paid for this game twice with no resolve.

TLDR: steam ♥♥♥♥♥♥ me over with buying Stellaris and idk what to do.

Im having the same problem. Steam wont let me buy anything. It keeps coming up with an error. I know its not my bank because i can buy stuff elsewhere and i don't use vpn. If i attempt to buy a game it reserves that ammount in my bank and i have to wait a week to get that money back. So its definately on steams side.

You cant really buy steam cards like you can nintendo so the only option is to wait forever for steam to fix their payment servers etc.

Sorry its not really helpful, but atleast you're not alone with this problem, and as said your bank should give that money back in around a week.

Edit: Use the web browser version of steam (chrome worked for me) as it allowed me to buy stuff. So there is definately a problem with the apps payment authentication process.

Steam admitted to me there is known issues with purchases on the mobile app and told me to use the website or PC app. Took them 5 replies to admit. They also blamed my bank but I contacted my bank and they said they never declined and gave me transaction codes to prove. I asked Steam how could I know it wouldn’t happen again if I tried to buy other games and they sarcastically replied “I can’t troubleshoot the future” and ended my ticket lol. Very mature.

If I were you, I’d just take the L and never use the mobile app for purchasing again. I don’t think they’ll fix it soon as they seem to be trying to swipe it under the rug. You’ll get your money back but Steam can’t do anything about it or make it faster, it’s all up to how your bank processes things behind the scenes.

I made a post about it: https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/8/3801650561765462924/

If you have time, please comment on it so it can stay near the top for others to see. Hopefully if it gets enough comments they will acknowledge it publicly and do something about it.

The same issue is present on gaming mode of the Steam Deck. Unable to purchase anything unless you switch to desktop mode and make the purchase there.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
