Steam Guard: Mobile Auth. on Tablet?
Hello.
So, despite being 18 years of age, I'm among the few screw-balls out there who do not own a smartphone (He's kidding, right?!), and I honestly don't plan on getting one in the near future (Holy ♥♥♥♥, where the ♥♥♥♥ did this guy grow up?!).

While I do own a tablet (Wait, he's not an amish person?), said tablet does not have a phone number because...well...it's a tablet. Tablets don't have phone numbers, last time I checked. (Or maybe they do. IDK.)

It will allow me to use the app, no problem. And I can get e-mail verfication to work, again no problem. But a lack of phone number means I have no way to connect to Steam via a 'mobile device' (despite the fact a tabelt IS a mobile device). This means I suffer with 15 day waits, and have no way to control it. (Duh, you ♥♥♥♥-head.) And I think we all know that NOBODY wants to wait 15 days to trade.

I mean I cannot trade with anyone, because getting stuff for free is like wanting to buy a car with Monopoly money and a few dozen quarters; it ain't gonna happen unless someone wants to be generous.

So, I ask, is there ANY way that I can sign up for the whole mobile-phone authenticator thingy, whilst not having to go out and buy a $500 phone for litterally a single reason, and/or get caught up in an unwanted contract?

Can't you enter your phone number when you try to activate it? Because if you use steam android app on pc through chrome, when you try to activate it, it doesn't detect your phone number so it asks you.

Also, you can buy a 20 for dollar indian phone from ebay which would work for steam. But I still use android app on my pc.

I have no phone number, and thus have no phone number to enter. That's my problem here.

do you have a friend who doesn't use Steam, who has a phone that can receive sms text messages? or do your parents? grandparents? adult siblings you trust?

the phone bit is only really needed to be used a single time. so just asking "hey mom, know i moved out of yhe house 3 years ago, but can you receive a sms from Steam for me one single time to help me out? please!?" or something...

then after that you can just use the app on your own tablet.

Look, I'm 18, and I still live with my mom. She uses her phone for basically all her contacts, and as such it wouldn't be the best thing to use. The next best thing I got is the home phone, but that is a phone not designed for texting or any sort of smart-phone-related tasks.

My brother also does not own a phone.

I'm a hermit, so I don't really have any friends outside of school.
My only suggestion is save up for one of two things: 1. Sartphone 2: Torch and Pitch fork
My vote torch and pitchfork.
Smartphone sorry for typo.

I mean I'm far from the only person out there who hasn't enough money to replace their perfectly-working device.
I mean I would think plenty of Blackberry users (good god, they don't give up a product easy!) would be unable or unwilling to upgrade...
