Nvidia Shield Offline?

Hey guys, i'm gonna buy the NVidia Shield Portable controller with touchscreen, not the tablet. I'm wondering if i get a game such as black ops 2, can i play solo zombies on it, or must i always need a connection? Also, can i link steam to it so i have the games i have already purchased? thanks lots.

I've been wondering if I can do this as well, I want to buy one but don't have a 5.0 ghz connection so idk abou tbuying one if I can't gamestream. plus, I'd like to play my steam games offline, or else I'll just buy the steamlink
