I've tried various solutions that people came up with (Deleting browser cache, Force stop app, etc.) but none of them worked. I assume that there was an internal change with the website itself that broke compatibility with the mobile app's browser.
The fact that the Steam Mobile category isn't even featured on the Discussions page anymore, and replaced with the Steam Chat App makes me think that they've completely abandoned it as long as the Authentication still worked.
They said to make sure your phone's OS is up to date, the app is updated to the latest version, and how your phone should meet the requirements.
This really aggravates me when they phased out my phone's model a long time ago.
How do you expect me to update an app crucial to my account's security when Steam itself removed my phone's support? Do they expect me to reinstall it on a new phone when the consequences of removing the Authenticator aren't worth the trouble to deal with? You lose access to the Market, you can't make trades for a long time, and worst of all, you'd have to keep inputting the damn Authenticator code over and over again for every login.

(At least I'm guessing this is the same issue. It will at least somewhat depend on the age of the device (or rather the operating system on it).
Thanks for bringing this thread to my attention. I guess I'm out of luck when it seems like the workaround is to use a VPN, and/or to mess with the HTTPS encryption.
But at least now I know that Valve isn't going to do anything about it when a more secure TLS handshake is more preferable than supporting older phone models.
