I doubt the Steam Box can produce such a grown.
Most of the people who buy it surely have a PC already, so not so many new accounts.
Also many of the concurrent users surely just leave Steam running on the background while the PC is on even if they don't plan on playing, but in consoles this doesn't usually happen because you only turn it on to play (mostly).

If it really was 7.5mil during christmas holidays that is almost one million up since september. A little box to help boost another 2.5mil during a whole year wouldn't be too far to catch in my book.

Probably could happen, but I think it would also have to involve a major software release. I also think if Valve would go back to event based sales, they can push toward 10 millions in quick fashion.

The latest spike was caused by L4D2 being free for one day. If HL3 was released and was free, we'd easily see 10m+ concurrents

At 18:33 the community stopped reporting data and it was going up, so peaks should be higher.
