Games from discs
Hey all, I was wondering if I could install Skyrim from a disc and add it to steam and still be able to get the achievements etc? Also is adding a game to steam easy to do? (I'm new if you hadn't already guessed).

Skyrim is a 'steamworks' title and REQUIRES you to add it to Steam. So you will end up with a Steam version that has achievements, etc. :D:

Okay, so what about other PC games which have achievements on Steam, if I had the disc versions and added them to steam would I still get the achievements?

Skyrim requires Steam by default so it'd be through Steam regardless if you bought it on a disc or digitally.

Adding games to Steam is easy. Under the Games tab click "Add a non-Steam game to my library" and then just select from the list. Note that this only serves as a launcher and will not add achievements to the game or anything like that.

If the games are redeemable on Steam, then yes. Skyrim is specific in that you have no choice, you HAVE to install it on Steam. Just because a game is available on Steam, it doesn't mean that a retail version can be activated on here.

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601 is a list of retail games that can be activated. It isn't 100% correct as there are others that can be added, but the best thing to do is TRY and if it says "invalid code"... you can' add it.
