Why do people undercut on selling cards..
... hugely? It seems an odd tactic to deliberately go out one's way to make less money. For example the average pricing is 30p, you'll get one person undercut that price to about 20p-- surely common sense would be to put it just 1p, or 2p below?

To sell faster and to get more visibility. I know I'd buy something quicker if it was 10-20 cents cheaper.

because we don't care ( at least I don't)

Blimey, most of the games I play, the cards go for 10p!

It varies quite a bit-- some games you can only get about 5p for; others up to about 40. THe foil ones of course generally go for quite a bit more.

It depends on how many drops the game has and how many people own that game. A game that everyone owns like Isaac will end up with a lot more people competing for the lowest price than a game like Gun Monkey's which not many own.

It mainly depends on how long do you want to wait to get paid. A lot of people aren't going to sit and wait in a queue of 30,000+ transactions to get 30p. Instead many will just choose to undercut for less and get paid sooner.

But if yours is the cheapest, even by one digit, then it will be at the top of the list.

If someone wants to undercut you again after, then they will almost certainly do that regardless of your price.

And that often happens.........however on average they still make money faster than the ones who don't undercut.

But again I'm not talking about not undercutting-- undercutting is obviously a sensible thing to do for quick results.

It's the amount people undercut by I speak of.

The prices can only go so low before people start becoming more inclined to buy them. It will reach a point where people are buying faster than others are undercutting, that is when it reaches a stable price.

Maybe they want to be totally sure it gets sold without having to come back and hit refresh or babysit the listing to make sure others haven't undercut them even further. It's a 'set it and forget it' type of model where they don't waste any more of their time with that listing regardless of how many other sellers there are. At that price you could buy it and resell it for more, but we are talking about such small profits that it isn't worth your time to babysit the listings either.
