Crafting Badges, is it really worth it?

I was just wondering what you actully got from crafting the badges on steam.

other than a badge..

After summer sales, no. Instead of receiving summer sale trading cards, you get coupons (non-marketable). Have to trade cards with people the old fashion way :D

I guess it depends if you feel like you want to craft them or not.

Usually a random background, emoticon and a chance at a discount coupon.

Upon crafting you receive:
A Steam profile background
Random emoticon ( etc)
100 XP for steam levels - Giving increased booster pack drop and more friend slots
Extra trading card (during sale) or coupon (outside sale)

You lose the cards from your inventory you used to craft the back, however you can still view the full images on the badge page (even if they greyed out with your progress to level 2/3/4/5 of the badge)

Other than that.. fairly pointless showoff/feel good stuff.

If you are not interested, just sell the cards on the market to give a little buffer to your steam wallet!

I crafted my first set of Summer Sale cards and regretted it. A crappy emoticon and a crappy Tomb Raider background. Still, you can increase your Steam level with the exp from it which also increases foil card and booster card drops when you get to certain milestones which could be potentially usefull

Just see it as something that might be fun for you. If you like to gather cards, do it. If not, sell them.

I enjoy it. Why wouldn't I? Look, a horse eating a melon.. .
But really, it's up to you.. I like gaining pointless stuff like these, it offers something to do on the side. I haven't put any cash into Steam Wallet & yet still crafted stuff & got level 12. Still got a bunch of cards left too. Could have bought a -£4 game after selling a foil card too :)

Forget about the background and ****y emoticon .... remember it in 6 months time... sell for £3-4 or something crazy... free game! That one is currently £0.60 and going up The background will be worth a little bit.... after a bit of time you have gained sir!

Is the general consensus that the Steam Summer sale cards and emoticons will be sky-rocketing in value in a few months? I did consider this but I'm not sure by how much. I've saved a good 14 cards plus the emoticon and background so I really hope so.

Normal summer cards will prob take quite a long time to go up much.... foils have already doubled in price over 24 hours.
But take again.. 5 people paid over £4.00 on the first day of the summer sale.

People can be crazy of collectable stuff, and even more so if they are limited and market is the only way to still get them!

Quite how much they go for after x months / years.. who knows... might be interesting to see.

Oh well, I suppose the best thing to do is just wait and see. Was considering snapping up a load of SS cards while they're cheap just incase. Probably do that depending on the price of them come pay day

I enjoy the extra friend slots & regular booster pack drops more that the emoticons & backgrounds, most of the former I never use ( e.g.) & the latter can only be used one at a time (derp - obviously).

It would be nice to see some options for the backgrounds (a slideshow feature e.g.); even better would be a trading hub for emos/bgs.
