You can idle, I have done it on a few games and in fact have just got all 4 drops by idling L4D2. Usually after around 2 hours all 4 drops have been made.
The drops seem comparable to TF2, so yes, roughly 25-70 minutes. 1hr per card is a safe bet on average, trying to get 5 cards, leave it for 4 or 5 hrs.
Nah, it only counts the game that steam is currently listing you as playing, so only the first one you opened would get cards.
I was just running Chivalry and Ion Assault and was getting drops for both.
Huh, weird. I've ran two at the same time and it was only giving me cards for the displayed one.
I opened them at the same time so maybe that helped? OR maybe I didn't pay enough attention to my messages screen and already had some drops?
Search "booster" on the market. They are a set of 3 additional card drops that are possible to earn for a game upon exhausting the free drops you get for purchasing the game.
I got a booster pack for FM2013 after eventually earning my initial drops and trading to complete my first badge... I'm sure I read somewhere that you only get them after level 10 but I might be mixing that up with something else...
