Trading card question...
If you get all the cards possible for a game via gameplay (typically about 50% of them, right?) and sell them on the Market, do you still get credit for obtaining those cards (for unlocking badges)? Does those half of the cards continue to "drop" from playing?

Or are you forced to purchase 100% of the cards for that game now, since you sold all the drops?

Once you trade or sell your cards away, they are gone for good and count towards nothing. Your drops are still consumed, and will never reset unless it's a game where you can purchase additional content and you earn an extra drop every $9.00 or so.

You would be forced to purchase 100% of those cards now.

Interesting...

Do you retain your cards after creating the badge? As in, you keep the badge but can sell the cards?

You do not. The cards are consumed in crafting the badge. You do have the potential to receive emoticons, gallery images, and coupons when you create the badge.

After you craft the badge, are you able to get cards again via gameplay? Or is that second level only obtainable through purchasing?

Only by purchasing or trading. I don't think you have to trade cards for cards, you can trade anything tradeable for anything tradeable. (Like TF2 crates for cards. As if anybody would want more of those blasted things.)

The getting additional drops for spending money in game still holds, so if you bought $9.00 of stuff in TF2 after you'd exhausted all your drops and purchased the rest of the cards to craft your badge, you'd earn another in-game drop.

Alright, I appreciate all the assistance!

I don't really play TF2, but I very well could (I know a few people who do so it's not completely absurd lol). I refuse to spend a penny on the trading cards, but I still wouldn't mind going up a badge level in Portal 2 and/or getting a nifty background. Plus I think I'll have to level up some games eventually anyways if I want to hit level 10 and get my achievement showcase...

Maybe I'll give TF2 a try and see if I can collect enough ♥♥♥♥ to pay for some cards lol. My time is valueless!

From the FAQ:
Is there a limit to how many trading cards can drop?
Most games will drop a number of cards equal to about half of the number of cards in that game's set of cards. For example, Half-Life 2 has 8 cards in its set, you can receive 4 card drops by playing it.

You'll need to collect cards from other community members. Try the beta group discussions, community market, barter with friends, and trade discussions. You can check how many drops you have remaining on your badges page.
