'Upgrade' type games?
I've been searching for games where you upgrade the main aspect in order to proceed further into the levels...

Was curious if anyone had any idea's in mind of any games that are similar.

I recently found 'Hill Climb Racer' for android and just fell in love with it because you HAVE to upgrade parts of the car in order to proceed further in the stages...
I remember playing a couple webbased games a long time ago where you had to upgrade parts of your space ship to proceed further in the level...

Anyone know of any games like this on steam?
Also, if you know what I'm talking about, is there a correct term or genre these games are called?

You wont believe it but its like the rescue ranger "yellow box" They are literally called "upgrade" games or "idle" games

Are you talking about metroidvanias, where you need to get a new ability to explore more of the map?

I can't think of anything that is like what you described. You're mostly only going to find games like that on smartphones.

evolve, skyrim, fallout, plague inc, any game where you can level up or change tools/weapons, that's upgrading, but apparently even though its one of the best features of any game, its not a tag on steam

I know what you mean, I recently played bomber crew and it was close. I also have enjoyed game dev tycoon, mount and blade warband and if you are okay with non steam games flight is my all time favorite.

Aren't you just describing the general idea of every metroidvania? You need to upgrade your character in some way to access previously inaccessible areas.
