How do I measure FPS
Can anyone tell me how to measure my FPS? I am trying to learn how to see my FPS while I am playing a game. From what I understand so far you want a high FPS while playing the game, NOT low. I was going to download BEEPA, or MSI to track my FPS. From what I understand when you go to play the game you should click on benchmark, then play the game. Can anyone tell me how to start my FPS while playing? Sorry if I sound stupid, but I am just trying to learn the best I can from all of you. I dont even really understand what Frame rates have to do with anything, but I am guessing if your FPS is running low then the game doesn't look or play good. Can someone explain what this FPS has to do with playing games?

Thanks

Download Fraps, when you install it. Click it and run it, now when you play a game. There will be a yellow number in one of the screen corners. That is your fps. And yes, you want a higher fps. Preferebly 60, or 30. Depending on your monitor and game.
FPS - Frames Per Second. as it says itself, it means how many frames your graphic card render per second. if you get 20 or lower fps rate, you will see 'slideshow' only. for human eye 30fps should be enough for smooth gameplay, but better if is higher.

Ah!! Thanks guys. I never heard of Fraps, only MSI or BEEPA. I will check out Fraps though if its easier to use than the other two. What ever is easier is obviously the best for me since this is all new territory for me. Is Fraps the actual name of the program? and do you think that would serve a newbie better than MSI or BEEPA?

Thanks again,:)

Sorry guys I really feel dumb now:( Fraps is BEEPA....Duh!! Ok I am back in reality now:) Thanks again...
nothing to worry about : ) it is always good way to ask if you are not sure. there are many applications like fraps now, but that one was one of the first and is still most popular i belive.

theres a free version

Yea I seen there was a free version, thank you. I just wanted to have more full control of everything, so I don't mind paying the funds,,,
The free version limits one to 30 second clips with www.fraps.com at the top of the video. Paying for it will remove the time limit and the web site's URL.

So does that mean its worth buying?
well, it all depends what do you need it for. if only for fps measuring, not really ; ) but if you want to record gameplays, it is worth that money. you can also try dxtory, which has ability to record two different sound sources at once

Don't buy it! Atleast not if you just want to look at your fps. Only thing the payed version does, is allowing you to record more than 30 sec of video at a time, and removing the fraps logo at the top. So unless you plan on making like big videos, no need to buy it. Even if you plan to do it though, why not try it out for free first before you buy it?
Do you want to measure your fps in centimeters or inches?
Use Fraps. If you play Valve games you don't need use Fraps, you can see your FPS if you type in console(you open the console with " ` ", if this don't work activate it from game options) and write cl_showfps 1

Sorry brother, I dont even know what that means:) I just was interested in fraps because I wanted to learn about it. I heard that if your FPS is high, than thats a good thing, and if its low thats a bad thing.
