It plays like HL2DM, except it's free, and it's not orientated on killing each other for points - the focus is to capture the flag, obviously. But the special moves such as killing with gravity gun+props (explosive barrels!), and gravity gun+nades make the gameplay interesting.
There's also a few movement advantages such as wall jumping, and bunnyhopping which are further documented on the website. My favorite though is explosion jumping - the explosives are nerfed in HL2CTF and instead you can use them to fly across the map at insane speeds doing awesome captures.
One last thing - you can throw the flag around, but it requires quite a bit of coordination.
In conclusion, HL2CTF is one of the best CTF games/mods out there in my opinion - a huge improvement from my first capture the flag game, which was in Combat Arms by Nexon (Way back when right after the beta stage).
There's also Overwatch 2, but it's not on Steam.
