Making guides and the "Tab" key

So, normally when you write a text, the Tab-key on your keyboard moves your cursor X spaces to the right. Not when you are writing guides, apparently.

I accidently hit Tab at a point. I saw no reason why my text should have those spaces when I wrote on, so I pressed Backspace. And went back to my list of sections in the guide. Fifteen+ minutes of work lost to a mispress of a key.

Not whining over the loss of the text (I should have saved during), but it's kinda silly that you can't actually use the Tab-key like you normally would in a text. Is there somewhere you can A. Suggest that they change the functionality of Tab, or B. Change it so I don't make that mistake again?
