Do you want to be able to lay in bed and play?
Do you want to lay on the couch in front of the TV and play while the TV is on in the background?
Do you want to be able to play while outside of the house?
If the answer to any of those is yes, then the Deck is worth it even if you have a good PC. Otherwise, it is not.
Also, Valve quite nicely released CAD files in case you want to 3d print an alternate shell, like the classic Atomic Purple Gameboys and N64.
My mobile phone is just as powerful as a powerful desktop PC. It would be great if steam could stream games to mobile.
The specs of steam deck is even below than budget phones.
A cell phone battery would overheat and explode or just die in a few minutes trying to run some of the games.
I would love to know the specs of what you would consider is a powerful desktop PC.
I used Steam Link a couple years ago to play games on my old Sony Xperia 10. Nothing major just some side scrolling shoot-em up's etc. It was fun enough I went out and bought a LINX Vision + Controller for some armchair, back yard gaming. However, a few months later they bought the Steam Deck out so my LINX Vision got demoted but that's life in the world of PC's, the moment you thought about buying anything it is already old and being replaced.
