FAMILY SHARING UPDATE?

Thank you for even allowing us to share games with family members but I just found out that we can't play simultaneously and that bugs me. It's like giving us a taste of pure freedom and you shut me down with locking my Family Library. Now I can't play Portal 2 for more than five minutes with my friends. Please fix this and let us play games at the same time. I'm deep in RESE4 and now my progression is stalled til my friend wants to stop playing BATMAN. Give us freedom to play what we want with who want and WHEN we want. Thank you. <3

Just buy them a copy. Family share isn't a way to a use getting you and a friend to pay at the same time. It's to let other play those games while you are not....

Should've mentioned this earlier. We both have the Arkham bundle. Which means that even though it's something we both own I can't play anything he owns if he's online. He can play absolutely ANY game he wants even if I was to own it and I'll still be unable to play what I want to. Soon, you begin to ask what's the point of game sharing if you can't play simultaneously play. PS4 gets away with it because there's a one on one thing. With steam it's FIVE people and TEN computers. That's a lot of people not paying for games. If it was down to a one on one type of game sharing system we wouldn't have problems like being kicked because the host is online. It's bs and could be fixed 100%. Not exactly accessible to anyone in my family since I'm on damn near all the time. Common Steam L

No, a shared library may only be accessed by one user at a time.

About the title: There was no update and there won't come any - they'd rather delete that feature again than open all doors for potential abuses.

What family sharing does is pretty much an improved version of account sharing that was used before.

Yes, we still get posts from people sharing an account with their kids and wanting to "separate" the games now, or people trying to family-share games that don't allow it -- so account sharing isn't completely dead -- but family sharing should still help promote the idea that everyone should have their own accounts from the get-go.

It was never about "buy a game once, play with everyone".

if its an offline coop game you can turn on steam offline mode and play together

I only had this issue if I had asked a friend for permission to play that game before i bought it. If i didnt refund or remove that game from account before I bought the game the game may need a clean uninstall done ( remove user folder where . Sav data is stored ) than reinstall the game. I had this issue on this account when I was playing my roommates copy of coromon.

That's not how Family Share works, if you want to play Formula 1. Buy it.
