I think this is an indie game.
But those are big AAA developers who develop great games, but there not really indie developers. Also, I didn't say Pac-man was a indie game, I dont have to just purchase indie games.
I personnaly see it as some hipster games that are sometimes very weird like Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery but usually very good since it relies only on quality and not on 24/7 TV ads showing off graphics that indie devs can't afford (As call of duty, battlefield, AC and some other AAA stuff)
Maybe an old school drawer like in bastion cost less than a crytek engine licence who knows ^^ (obvious troll sorry)
In an other definition, an indie game means independant game where the content isn't driven by shareholdes that thinks something will sell good like "hey man, lets add gangnam style in that crucial scene of this horror game! I'm sure it will be genius! Anyway we've been told to"
So if you follow the definition from the beginning: Half-life is developped by valve, edited by valve, distributed by valve, which is an independant group not driven by wallstreet rules but in the case of ubisoft they do have like dozens of internal studios and maybe the same external numbers so i don't think studios can come up with random sh*t at the HQ
You should have a look at this

Anyway you should really really REALLY REALLLYYYY give psychonauts a try, after that you'd be begging for a sequel
Amnesia: The Dark Descent - Be warned, this is the scariest game ever made, on any system. That said, it is awesome.
Beat Hazard - you will not find a more fun and engaging twitch shooter. The game uses any music you care to put into it as the basis for its 'levels'. Every song brings different enemy and boss patterns. Endlessly fun.
The Binding of Isaac - a very difficult but sickeningly addictive roguelike with some very disturbing elements.
Containment: The Zombie Puzzler - basically Bejweled. With zombies instead of jewels.
Dungeons of Dredmor - This tongue in cheek rpg is full of hilarious item and place names and monsters that will make you gigle as you stab them to death. The character professions are freaking funny as well.
Killing Floor The best zombie apocalypse/fps game available. The game is truly co-op, as it requires all players to know their perk and work together for the whole team to survive.
Legend of Grimrock - If you loved the old classic tile based rpgs such as Eye of the Beholder, Dungeon Master and Lands of Lore, you will love this game.
Limbo - A difficult, dark, and disturbing little platformer.
Little Inferno - an interesting game where you order items from a catalog them burn them. It's a bit similar to Powerstone 2 in that you can make new items out of existing ones.
Torchlight 1 and 2 are fun Diablo style rpg games with pets that you can use to sell your items to the shop for you, and Torchlight 2 has multiplayer. They're great fun.
Terraria - a lot like a 2d Minecraft.
Penumbra Overture, Penumbra Black Plague, Penumbra Requiem - only for the very hard to scare. These games are not for the kids hiding behind the couch when the monster shows up. They are seriously frightening.
Scratches: Director's Cut is a very disturbing and scary horror point and click adventure with typical adventure game puzzles and such.
System Shock 2 - Everyone should play this game sometime. Period.
Super Meat Boy, VVVVVVVVVVVVV, Electronic Super Joy are all ecellent for the masochist who loves torturing themself with super-hard platformers.
Trine 1 and 2 - Cool colourful fantasy platformers.
Bastion - A groovy little jrpg type game.
Cthulhu Saves The World - Humour plus Cthulhu plus SNES nostalgia gameplay.
Lone Survivor - a creepy little horror game that reminds one strongly of Silent Hill.
Unepic - an awesome little Metroidvania type game. Lots of platform jumping, combat, and gaining new items/skills.
Fez - I doubt this one needs explaining.
The Alien Shooter/Zombie Shooter titles are just plain 'mowing down loads of critters' fun.
You mean they haven't implemented the zombies yet?
Can't recommend it enough.
Amnesia: Wont get it. I hate horror games (i'm a bit like a little screaming girl)
Beat Hazard: THAT'S ON STEAM!? I though it was only on Iphone, i'll definelty get it.
Binding Of Isacc+Super Meat Boy+Terraria: Umm. I own them both already. Your right they are great.
I'll get Fez, VVVVVV and Bastion sometime.
I haven't heard of the others though. I'll check them out.
The potential "don't get it" is if you're looking for a "hard" game -- Dust is a bit on the easy side of things. Which I appreciate (I could even get the achievement for playing the game on "tough" -- something that I don't usually try), but not everybody does.
If you're open-minded and looking for a truly unique gaming experience that really pushes the boundaries of what games can be, then look no further than Gone Home. It is a game all about narrative and exploration that surprised me as one of my favorites this year.
