Games like Mosou/Dynasty Warriors?

I love those games, but I'm not liking how the dev team behind them is. I loved dynasty Warriors 3/4 and Hyrule Warriors. The more modern games are full of DLC and I always felt like even after all these years, they're still clunky and dated

I want to know if there are any games like this series, but NOT made by that team. Whenever I tried to search online for anything, I'd just get lists featuring games FROM those developers. I'm hoping to find titles I don't know about, not spinoffs made by the same people on the same engines with the same problems

Has any indie team ever tried to make a game inspired by it? I love going into battles and clearing out hundreds of fodder enemies, but it feels like such a limited selection of games do that
