Are these booster packs even real?
When I heard of the trading cards at first I thought it was a pretty cool idea, figured I'd grind to level 10 asap and then wait for the booster packs to come in...
Well so far I'm eligible for 21 games, I have been eligible for a least 10+ games for 5-6 months now and I have yet to receive a SINGLE booster pack.

How stupidly low can the drop rate possibly be?

EDIT : And yes I do log in every week, I log in almost every day actually

Every time someone crafts a badge, there is a chance for one person to receive a booster pack out of all that are eligible.

Of course it's low chance.
... I'm on evry day, I got 24 eligible games and I haven't had f£$%-all either ...
I'm level 23 and have 24 eligible games. I've already received two booster packs: a Kerbal Space Program and a Sins of a Solar Empire Rebellion.
So yeah they exist and you don't need to be high level to get them.
they exist, got 3 so far. 2 of them for games i had the badge on lvl 5 already :cfacepalm:
I've had about 5 in total. So yes, they exist. They're just random and rare.
By the way every 10 Steam levels, your chances of getting booster pack increase by +20%.

Your drop rate increases by 20%, not your chances. There's a difference :P
They are very rare, but real. Actually i got one today :P
But ya, you wont complete a badge only with booster packs, thats for sure.

Does a continuous session count
Yes.

If a week passes without a log in, how does that affect ones chances overall? For that week?
If you have not logged on in a week you are not eligible for the booster packs.

What day constitutes the start of each week?
Whatever day you logged in on. Let's say you log in on wednesday. You are then eligible up to the next wednesday.

Drop rate and chance are the same thing in this instance. Its just semantics and your trying to troll.
there's another thing that makes them even more rare now. people learned at last sale that it's better to wait with crafting. normally you get a crappy coupon from it. during sales you get a card of the actual sale set and by crafting them you might be lucky and get a worthy item.

Oh, I didn't realize a difference in opinion or understanding automatically meant I was trying to troll. How dare I...

Yes they are real, I've gotten 13 of them now. Not common though even when your level is in the 70tys.

I think you're both wrong :P
Your droprate depends on how many players are eligible and their chances. Talking about a 20% increased chance based on that actual droprate is totally correct.
Ok a simple break down.

As your level rises above 10.
For each level of 10 -10th, 20th, ect...
Your chances to get a booster pack drop go up 20% per 10 level; for each game that you are eligable to recieve boosters from.

However whether a pack drops at all, for each of those games, depends on the number of badges being crafted for that game.

Very few people crafting badges that week for that game, very few boosters dropped. Then if you are eligable for a drop a random drawing between EVERYONE eligable for drops for that game.

So yes leveling up increases your chances.

But there are LOTS of people eligable for drops. Badges aren't consistantly crafted for every game.

It's a few cookies divided among several thousand people on adverage. Better odds than the lottery. But you'd have better odds at a ticket raffle.
