Origin needs to die off
Steam is beatiful. One problem is has is freakin Origin. Not that Origin can even compete. But all it does is make it so that a few awesome games are not availible on steam. Any game that cannot be purchased through Steam and on Origin instead I will refuse to purchase. If they want to sell their game they need to not taint it will freakin Origin only crap. I hate Origin. Steam rules and Origin drules....it pretty much what I'm getting at. It needs to go away. Stupid Origin.

I wish more people understood how competition works in the business world and how the consumer is the one who benefits from it. There will come a time when you'll wish a competing service could give Valve a run for its money. Valves current market share is bad for the consumer.
Pc gaming has never been more affordable, hell valve are spearheading a pc revolution in gamers living rooms with steam OS. How is that "bad" for the consumer?

EA is pure profit driven cancer, I'm all for competition but origin is at its best a scam, at its worst malware.

"I hate something therefore it must die"

Uuuuh... no. :cfacepalm:

PPL think FFS. More competition = more benefits for us - gamers!
I love steam, but I don't want monopoly.

No it doesn't need to die off and in fact Steam can learn something from Origin. You have 48 hours to return your purchase for full money back with Origin, no questions asked. That is great and very pro-consumer.
Amen. One of so few common sense posts.

After which, of course, you can take your refund and buy five or six games on Steam for that same amount.

Consoles really aren't Steam's competition. Their competition is Origin, the Ubistore, Green Man Gaming, GamersGate, Amazon, Nuuvem, Gamesplanet, etc.

that's the fallacy.

In realty NO ONE is competing with Steam in the right space.

Steam isn't successful because it has a store.

It's successful because of Steamworks.

Until someone other than MS decide to not screw up GFWL or it's equivalent middleware product, and make a compelling platform, Steam will continue to dominate. The Store is secondary to Steam's success. Steamworks is the drug by which all devs are pulled into the Steam ecosystem.

You see all of the threads complaining about Steam sales? Part of that is from Valve getting comfortable as being top dog, thinking their sales would trounce other vendors because they were top dog, but as we see GMG and Amazon are easily nipping at their heels and very possibly surpassing them in some areas.

Amazon/GMG do far better on pricing vs Steam these days.

But again the store isn't what keep Steam on top, and for some odd reason no one has figured that out yet. If EA decided to pull out all the stops and actaully make the Origin platform compete with Steamworks THEN you'd see some actual competition. The only other platform that came close was GFWL, and Steam was successful explictly because it simply had to be 'better than GFWL' which wasn't exactly saying much.

But back to the OP

There's nothing 'wrong' with Origin. As a pure digital distribution and store application it does it's job fine. No better and no worse than Steam.

If you 'hate' origin, it's because you tricked yourself into hating it because of EA, not because of the actual platform itself.

Origin is not a competing product, it's an alternative DRM scheme. It's locking down content to one platform. Many games on Steam can usually be bought on CD, through GMG, GoG, Amazon, and you don't even need to use Steam to run them, but hey, if you want the convenience of the best system on the market, you can use Steam. Origin however, is a system that locks you into EA's walled garden. They do not make their games widely available. They force you to install and use Origin to play games like ME3. It's cumbersome, and unnecessary (see the Simcity absolute disaster). They could easily make their games availabe for other systems like Steam, or even remove DRM, but choose to make their products more onerous to buy. Who wants to have 15 different accounts that you have to give personal information to, credit card information, creates usernames and passwords to use, just to buy or play single player games? Steam is simply the best on the market, by a large margin, and the one I chose to give my business to. I'd happily buy games like Diablo 3, ME3, etc. (and I own D2, ME2, etc.), but I do not want to create multiple accounts for every company just to play video games.

And what does Steam do... oh yes lock you down to Steam!

You can hate origin all you want but seriously at least know wth you're even talking about.

Many games on Steam can usually be bought on CD, through GMG, GoG, Amazon, and you don't even need to use Steam to run them,

Which is the same for games on Origin........

Origin however, is a system that locks you into EA's walled garden.

And Steam does what excactly?

They do not make their games widely available.

Not sure what planet you're on but EA games are extremely widely available

They force you to install and use Origin to play games like ME3. ,

And CS:GO needs Steam? So what?

Double Standard much?

You can probably buy Battlefield 4 in more places, both physical and digital download, than you can buy the Orange Box, Half-Life 2, Portal 2, etc. I'd say CS:GO, but that's kind of unfair considering it doesn't have a physical option.

Again, why did you support the company with your custom, if you want it to 'die off'?

Simply because the games that are only available on Origin are still good games people like the OP are interested in experiencing. Just because the hotdog vendor is a prick it doesn't make his hotdogs any less tasty =)

@Satoru If you are dead set on proving that people with opposing views to yours are incorrect please provide factual evidence, open questions, and your false sense of superiority do not count as facts.

OP is everything wrong with PC gaming today and why the PC continues to lose it's streanghts that make it so great.

It's why things like game DRM platforms are becoming entire operating systems and why nobody laughs at it.

Satoru responding to someone saying that "Origin sucks because they force you to install and use it to play their games" with the fact that, if you want to play Left4Dead, CS:GO, TF2, etc.. you need to do the EXACT SAME THING.... isn't an open question and is factual evidence.

Everything he replied to was wrong.

EA is an ok company, I really like BF.

If you've read my first post here you'll know I have nothing agains Origin, I use it myself and have plenty of games on there. That out of the way, when I read his responses they sound as if he holds himself to be superior to people he responds to, and most things said in this thread are a matter of opinion. So just like was said to the OP, just because you don't like it it doesn't mean its wrong, I see the responses from both side of the conversation and can honestly say that they both bring good aguments to the table, thats just my opinion and nothing more, and just because you don't like my opinion doesn't make me wrong =)

This is an opinion board, not a facts board. There is no wrong or right.
