Pancake Recipes in Game Recommendations

While browsing through the game catalogue I frequently stumble over individuals who start their recommendation with "I don't know how to write a recommendation for this game but here's a recipe for pancakes instead..." Then they proceed with the ingredients list and recipe.

Am I losing my mind? Is this a meme that I'm not aware of? When I look at the profile of the recommendation writer they usually have less than 10 reviews and none of the others have the pancake reference.

Is this like the cake recipe recited in the Portal games? I must be losing it.

I think it's a case of one person doing it, posting on reddit. Other people copying their idea and perpetuating it amongst other games.
