You were phished and hijacked. Scan your PC for infections using a good anti-malware tool such as Malwarebytes anti-malware.
You need to wait for Steam Support to respond to your ticket - they may be able to assist (note that an item restoration is NOT guaranteed - it's handled on a case by case basis). No one here can do anything to expedite the process.
I already know what happened and have made actions on my computer to prevent such matter with regards to the malware which I did receive after clicking that link which was sent through the messages. For the record, not only me but two of my friends had the same problem and have lost their items. It maybe easy for you to say that there's "no guarantee" that the items will be recovered/retrieved but for me it's a downfall as I have used my hard earned money to collect those items to have the bragging rights sake. In fact, I have spent a fortune to get those items. STEAM should be able to help us retrieve those items. This problem should never have occurred if they have made such actions on their system to prevent hackers/phishers from sending links containing malwares through our inbox over the messaging system itself.
But let me thank you for making me feel that STEAM is somehow useless in terms of recovering those items. Good job buddy, you're awesome. Nice way to start a good story in removing malwares chit-cha-blah-blah but you just had a bad ending telling me that I might not be able to get back my items cause it sucks.
Must be very sad and upset about what happened to your items, I understand how you feel fellow gamer. For sure it was never your fault or my fault to expect that the link sent through the messages. Anyone who have not experienced that situation would really be curios and click on the link. Those kind of links containing malware should not be sent through our account inbox in the first place and the STEAM system should have a way to prevent those links from coming into our inbox. And so I have the right to say that they should be able to help us retrieve all those items back.
I hope that STEAM will not leave us behind, ㄨSAO︻デ═一ㄨShin. Just stay positive out there fellow gamer. Warn your friends and tell them not to click the link.
I'm not sure if you're trying to use sarcasm here with "thanks/you're awesome" but what I wrote is the reality of the situation. In an ideal world we would all be 100% safe from phishing links, but that will never happen. It's impossible. There are too many factors (the biggest one being the individual user - Valve has zero control of what a user does, clicks on, or downloads on their computer... whether it came from a link in Steam or elsewhere). It's just one reason that Valve has never been responsible for item restorations. Security of accounts, items, and games has always been the primary responsiblity of the user. Mistakes happen and each and every person who has had their items successfully restored should thank their lucky stars that they got one because Valve has absolutley no obligation to do so. Again, this is a fact - it's not me trying to burst your bubble. I'd rather tell you the straight up truth than lie and give you false hope.
Anyways, I never said that they (Valve) are useless in helping. They have, in the past, restored items lost during account hijackings. It depends on what they see on their end and whether it's clear that your account was compromised (among other things). If what I read about latest phishing method is true, it may be difficult (there's more explained in a thread where a user decompiled the latest phishing download). You may get your items back. You may not. I can't tell you. No one but Steam Support can give you a definite "yes" or "no". I did not intend to make you lose hope, so please don't.
Yes, I am frustrated. And I am losing hope cause it had been more than 5 days since I got scammed. I also have checked the profile that stole my items and I saw thousands of items on his/her inventory. It was private the day the items were stolen and now it had been set to public which may now have moved my items to other accounts. I just hate the fact that the action from Valve (if they intend to help) haven't been initiated until now. Sadly, after checking the items on the account that stole my items it no longer has my Kantusa and other expensive items. I'm so sad and losing each ounce of hope everyday.
Anyhow, I'm sorry for being mad at your post. I'm upset and very frustrated at this situation. I hope that this matter will not happen to you or any of your friends in the future. If Valve will not be able to retrieve my items then I guess I'll just have to live with it and make sure to uninstall all the games I have purchased from them.
>Someone else having your account details.
>You downloading a trojan/keylogger/other malware that gives a hijacker access.
>Another person physically accessing the computer your account is logged into.
>You willingly (knowingly or unknowingly) giving up the information a hijacker needs to access your account.
It may be frustrating for you to lose your in game items like this, but please remember it is not Valve's fault, nor those who are attempting to give you information here. In order to 'return' items to a person Valve must dupe the items, thus you can understand why they will very rarely do so. It is likely that some scammers/hijackers use this method to dupe items of their own. All you can do is wait for Valve to respond. Try and be patient. Sometimes they will return items despite their policy of not doing so, but it is rare and if they do it it will only be done once. No one here can really do anything to change any of this.
