The thing is that you CAN get it for free. You just have to have a lot of friends or know-how in trading. Even if you don't, you can save big money by spending in the right places.

It's just lazy, entitled kiddies and idiots whining about things they don't understand.

I don't have the know-how of trading or a lot of friends. I just play games and talk about games. You can get this stuff for free, but I don't see the purpose in investing the energy into something so complex and unpredictable, more so than any game I've ever played. Hey now, people use Steam in different ways. People who don't buy into the trading card thing and just sell them off are going to have a lower steam level and less gems to use. Also, he/she might not want to rely on other people to participate in the auction. It does kind of suck to be left out of an event because you use Steam a certain way, so I can understand why some people wouldn't enjoy this event.

Can confirm. I have been here 11 years (badge to prove it) and I am Steam lvl 22 with a couple different badges and whatnot, nothing fancy. I simply didn't get into the whole trading thing like so many did. I have Steam to play games and play with friends. Sure, I crafted some badges and played around in the market to test the waters now and then but not like most people have. I did sell an unusual TF2 hate for almost $70 last year so that was kinda cool.

Personally I have zero desire to participate in the gem thing. It just doesn't make sense and its not logical. People are going insane over it right now. Here I am just waiting for the actual Steam Winter Sale (or whatever their gonna call it this year).

I suppose people do their own thing and I am cool with that. I just see Steam as a gaming thing and not a place like Ebay. Oh well, call me old I guess............

How is it unfair to give everyone a chance to win something? How is that being entitled?

If a store is having a "community event" would you not expect to have just as much a chance to win as everyone else, not just the people who spent the most money?

I'm fine with Valve giving people with lots of games an advantage. That's what the userbase is here to do, spend money on video games. I was fine with the previous events, a little miffed about the Summer event, but this event isn't about gamers, which I suspect most of us are, it's about traders and paying traders, which I suspect are in the minority by no small amount. It's not about the games anymore and that's what's really upsetting me.
