Really Ubisoft, 2K?
First day after currency change, we -as Turkish Gamers- were happy, really we were because games seemed affordable. For example, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel was 89 TL ($40), Beyond Earth was similar too. After few days:
Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel | 170 TL = $76
Beyond Earth | 170 TL = $76

Not only 2k games, AC: Unity is in same spot. Before the update they were $59 so update actually increased the prices about %30.

This is horrible. Just horrible.

I think this is just a start, thing will be worse in few days and i wonder why? Why we have the worst price in the entire planet?

For comparison, movie tickets costs about 10TL here so you can go see a movie 17 times instead of buying a game.

Why?

I cannot speak of behalf of either Ubisoft or 2K, but living in Canada I have frequently found that even with the exchange rate and shipping charges, I can buy items in the United States cheaper than I can in my own country. Companies do not generally price their products based on an exchange rate, but rather on what they think they can sell it for in the local market. I can only assume that Ubisoft and 2K games feel they can get that price, though it seems rather high to me.

Before the update they were %30 (based on USD) cheaper so i can't understand reason of this.

Atrocious double-standard, %52 increase from US prices! Who the heck would pay for this daylight robbery?!

I won't be buying anything priced like this, Steam better contact with the distributors and solve this issue. They'll lose all Turkish customers otherwise.

I think it is ultimately the companies who decide on the prices, and Steam is just the seller on their behalf. We as Turkish users used US dollars to make purchases before yesterday. When the conversion hit, prices were generally fair, most of the games being %10 - 15 cheaper than they were with $ pricing. Civ Beyond Earth, for example, was $50 for us, which equals to 110 TL, and after conversion it was up for sale for 75 TL. This is reasonable enough due to income levels and rampant piracy. Russia, for example, gets almost everything for much lower prices than US and EU for the same reason, sometimes the difference is as big as %50.

So at first it seemed like the change is going to be friendly to Turkish users and defer more people to using steam and buying originals. But some greedy companies like EA and 2K suddenly decided to increase their prices for no reason other than the fact they can get away with it. For a game I was able to buy for $50 (110 TL) before conversion, I now have to pay 170 TL ($75). This is a %50 increase in price for us. This is ridiculous and stupid. If these companies think they will make sales with such absurd prices, theyre way greedier and more out of touch with reality than I thought they were. Steam has to do something about it asap if it doesnt want Turkish buyers to simply stop using the software and buying games from here altogether or go for alternate platforms.

That's the problem though. Up until now you were buying based on the prices in the United States. With the change to local currencies on Steam, publishers are adjusting prices based on your region, so you are no longer buying based on the United States prices. That's why there is a difference. It may not be fair, but I am sorry to say that is what is happening.

If they want to sell their games, they have to be fair. When smart companies price their product they consider how was the market like for the user before and how much he is able to afford. Nobody is going to make a purchase when they know they are now paying %50 more for no reason at all. What they're doing now will only force Turkish users to find alternate ways to get games for cheaper from other regions or torrenting them, which will hurt them more than it hurts users.

I agree with you completely. The markup is ridiculous, and I know exactly how you feel from watching the same thing (albeit not as severely) happen in my own country. I would suggest complaining directly to the companies, but somehow I don't think they will change their mind. I hope I am wrong though, and I feel for you and your fellow countrymen.
Glatheros 2014 年 10 月 23 日 上午 9:42
this price increase probably happened because a local distributor (Aral Ithalat) complained to the game companies.
merhum 2014 年 10 月 23 日 上午 9:43
Well most people can't pay 170 TL straight up, so there's that. It's not like they're charging the US $ equivalent everywhere. They will make little to no sale before the game is 2 years old and cut in price.

You're right, they probably wont. I already sent mails to the companies themselves, we will see how much good it will do. For the time being, I will just stop making purchases from them until they re-adjust even though Ive been looking forward for Civ for months.

Why should I pay 76 dollars to a single game? Give us some fair prices or give us old dollar system. Actually I was happy with dollar prices too. I am Steam user since 2009 and I will not going to buy any more games with that prices.

80$ isn't 'not fair'. It's a con.

There are other sites out there that sell Steam keys for US prices anyway, but we like to purchase directly from Steam. It's up to Steam if they want to keep us or lose profit to third party sellers.

QFT
Here is the thing. i aint paying 170TL (76$ or what ever) for the boxed version from the local distributor which acts like monopoly and determines the prices like stockmarket - blackmarket style and the best selling game gets ridiculously high prices. (i wonder the GTA V price :D ) So we buy games from different sources (or at least used to buy) like steam. Prices were stable. This is just pointless.
