What is the best Controller for PC?
I'm looking to purchase a Controller for my PC, however have always used a Keyboard and Mouse. I am looking to play various games which would be better played with a Controller rather than a Keyboard and Mouse such as Dark Souls. So, anyone recommend any good Controllers?

I was thinking of an Xbox 360 Controller or F710 Wireless Gamepad, thoughts?

I've used the F710 which runs with or without Logitech's drivers in XInput and DirectInput. The only bug I've had with it is that the RB button sometimes stops working. Taking out the batteries and pressing any of the buttons and putting them back in fixes it though. Other than that it's been a very reliable controller.

Although with Steam's new controller coming out later this year I'm intrigued by that as well.

I have been told Steam Controller only will work with the Steam Machine and Steam Link and can not be used individually which I thought was silly, so I did not believe it. I'm thinking of waiting and getting a Steam Controller.
I didn't like the F710, I felt the triggers were too stiff, the unit itself too heavy and the wireless was kinda flaky and kept dropping out.

Fortunately I'm sat at a desk most of the time I am gaming, so I can use a wired Xbox One controller which is by far the best I've ever used. I'm hoping they will release a wireless adapter for it soon.
XBox360 is kind of the de-facto standard. In addition to games that require fully functional drivers, many games also have the correct images for button prompts, the correct idea of the layout of the controller, or an image of the XBox-360 controller to show the button bindings.

In other words, if you want something that just works and causes no problems unless you're talking about games with bad controller support, XBox360 is the way to go.

Sorry Logitech. I'm sure you have working drivers, but I have no idea how similar your layout is to the XBox360 controller (being able to configure things is great. Not having to do that is greater), and I don't know how many games have Logitech button prompts and Logitech controller images. Hence, I cannot recommend them :-)

Google: microsoft xbox 360 controller for windows (this one does not need to download anything just plug & play as long you are using a windows system)

Logitech controllers are essentially identical to 360 as far as games recognizing them are concerned and use the same button layout so there is no difference in that regard. Also don't ever remember having to install drivers for mine.

@OP: If you mainly plan on using it for games that require the sticks go 360, if you plan to use the d-pad more go with a Logitech, 360 dpads are horrendous.
