What is Steamos
The sales lately have been about "Steamos". What does that mean.

It's basically an appliance like distribution of Linux.

From a purely consumer perspective it just means a particular game runs on Linux

Ah, so something they have developed for their "Steam machine" That im not gonna buy.

Yes but it's also a much broader initiative to bring more games onto Linux in general. SteamOS is simply one prong of that initiative. thats why they're supporting things like OpenGL/Vulcan, which doesnt tie devs to Windows only APIs.

But unlike the machine it is free. So if you have a PC laying around you could install SteamOS and make your own Steam Machine.
