Multi-Game Package Question.
The Total War Master Collection sale expires soonish and I would like to be able to buy it and gift all games except Rome 2 to friends (as I bought the Master Collection earlier in the year before Rome 2 was offered and Rome 2 isn't on sale by itself, only through the Master Collection).

Steam advises me to look at the "extra copies support article" to see if I can gift the items I already own to friends and keep the ones I do not have. The article mentions that some limited time promotions (such as this sale) may come with extra copies I can gift friends. I'm confused as to whether I can and I don't want to buy the collection only to find out I have wasted my money. Will this work?

Alternatively, If I buy the bundle as a gift copy can I gift the games I don't want and decide to keep Rome 2/gift it to myself?

If the above two options don't work is there another way I can do this?

Sorry for the annoying technical question and thanks for your help. :)

Unless the package explicitly states it can give extras it more than likely doesn't. You also cannot split packs to my knowledge.

Okay thanks and what do you mean by "split packs"? Also can I gift myself and gift of items individually or is that what you were referring to?

That what he means.

All the games are a single item in your inventory if you buy it as gift. You can't pick and choose what you redeem.

Damn well I'll just have to wait for Rome 2 to go on sale by itself it seems :(
Total War Master Collection is not mentioned at all in the article below.

They couldn't have been clearer regarding your question.

You will not receive any extra copies whatsoever.

Extra copies will only be issued as a special promotion in the following specific cases:

  1. Users who own "Left 4 Dead" and then go on to purchase "Left 4 Dead + Left 4 Dead 2 Bundle" will receive an extra copy of "Left 4 Dead".
  2. Users who own "Portal" and then go on to purchase "Portal Bundle" will receive an extra copy of "Portal".
  3. Users who own “Half-Life 2” and go on to purchase “The Orange Box” or the "Valve Complete Pack" will receive an extra copy of “Half-Life 2”.
  4. Users who own “Half-Life 2: Episode One” and then go on to purchase the "Half-Life 2: Episode Pack”, “Valve Complete Pack” or “The Orange Box” will receive an extra copy of “Half-Life 2: Episode One”.
  5. Users who own "Dawn of War II"and then go on to purchase "Dawn of War II Gold Edition" will receive an extra copy of "Dawn of War II"
  6. Users who purchase the available four packs for specific Steam titles will receive three extra copies of that title to gift to friends.
  7. Extra copies may apply as a part of some limited time promotions. In that case, information on what will be included with your purchase will be listed on the storefront's transaction page.

These special promotions will allow you to send a gift pass for your extra copy to a friend who does not already own the game.

These promotions do not apply to any games other than those specifically listed.

It was mainly this one confusing me. But yeah it doesn't state it on the store page.
