How Do I Change My Recommended Tags?
I tend to buy a Humble Bundle most weeks - it's a charity thing, I don't pay any attention to what games I get, lol. The problem with this, though, is that it has biased my tags in ways I really don't want them to go. How can I change my recommended tags to stop Steam trying to sell me stuff I am really not interested in?

I accidentally filtered out tags that I do like and now they might be shown less, I wish there was a away to manipulate your tags more and that Steam won't manipulate tags that you set for yourself and just go with whatever you purchase.

Recently, a friend suggested I play a game so they had somebody to talk about it with. It was a different genre than I usually look for but the game was fun and different in it's own way.

Then there was a steam sale and the "Recommended For You" section listed a bunch of games from that genre. I wanted to fix that and found this thread. The solution I found was not listed though:

Steam window top right corner, to the left of the controller icon is your [account name].
[account name]->Account Details->Preferences->Tags to Filter Out.

Lets you enter up to 3 tags you want to see less of.

...
So if you give directly to charity instead? It's not easier?

HOW TO REMOVE RECOMMENDED STEAM TAGS

1. Scroll down on your main store page until you see "Your Discovery Queue."
2. Click on "Learn More" at the upper-right of the queue.
3. On the next page, just below the queue, click the button "Customize your queue."
4. Under "Exclude products with these tags" type the tag you don't want to see and hit "Add."
5. Click "OK" and Enjoy!

This change will apply to the "Featured & Recommended" section as well.

This does not work. I did this and put multiplayer in the exclue products with these tags and it is still one of my tags. I restarted steam and still there. I don't like being told what I like.

Go to this link: https://store.steampowered.com/account/preferences

Scroll down to "TAGS TO FILTER OUT."
Enter the them.
Scroll to the bottom and click "save."

Both methods work if you want to see less of games with those tags than other tags, but I think they don't precisely solve the problem.

I imagine there are 3 tag priority levels in the store:
Recommended > Normal > "Filtered Out".
Am I right?

All the solutions that have been mentioned in this thread moves the tag from Recommended to "Filtered Out", not to Normal level.

I agree with your presumption. There doesn't seem to be a way to choose what is prioritised and isn't - that is determined by Steam for now - all we can do is outright block tags, which may then hide games we might otherwise play.

I don't often like survival games, but a handful of my favourites have it as a tag. And thank's to Steam's algorythm, the store prioritises the tag because of those few games.

If I had my way every tag would be on my block list.

Wait... is there a limit to how many tags you can filter out?

You know what would be awesome? If the Steam devs made a thing that would allow us to shut off recommended tags with one switch instead of having to manually filter out each tag.

Exactly. There are at least a couple of tags that I would like to change from "recommended" to "normal" because it's not that I don't want to see games with those tags, it's that I just don't want Steam prioritizing games with those tags.

Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a way to do that.
