Effect from playing video games
So when I play horror games when I'm sad or scared it makes me feel understood and I sort of relax, do you have situations like that? Maybe with different kind of states/feelings with different kind of genres?

People have different stress hormone/endorphin chemistry. I'm somewhat like you in this regard. I play extremely hardcore games (think full-loot PvP MMOs and survival games, WoW Classic HC, etc.) because they act as destressers for me. I actually become more relaxed in those settings. I also enjoy horror games, but I get bored slogging through the narratives so I usually just watch playthroughs of them, like movies.

This is uncommon in the general population, and most people have trouble stomaching such experiences on a good day, which is evident by how much less popular these genres are to more mainstream stuff like cozy/story/co-op games and hero/drama/family films.

I don't with horror games, but I do enjoy the hunt in either SP/MP/Co-op games. Sneaking around in bushes and taking people out with a silenced weapon or knife (I should seek help for that) :steammocking:

I also like to cause chaos and blow stuff up, especially in SP. :steamhappy:

you would probably have similar effects from movies, books, etc…

RPG's give me peace. Sometimes Xcom if I want to just drop in and drop out. I used to like Racing games and Fighting games, but these days they just amp me up and I don't want to be amped up in chill time.
The Mass Effect universe feels like home to me. :conwayshrug:

Couldn't agree more.
Just don't confuse real life with video game like some "child advocates" group do. Lots of them ended up being found out that they are, shall we say, wolves in sheep's clothing and they all ended up going to jail.
