Windows has better mod support but I did finish Final Fantasy IV on my steam deck and had a good experience. Guess it depends on what game it is.

As for app support Linux is still not there. If it can get the Affinity Suite, Clip Studio Paint, and Toon Boom Harmony and Storyboard Pro then I'll make the switch. I'm not using Gimp or any other alternatives.

When the game works, the experience is pretty much the same. Once a game is running, nobody would be able to tell you if the game was running on Windows or Linux, so really it doesn't matter there.

I know you said "besides compatibility", but that's really the main consideration. If you want to play new, AAA, multiplayer, live-service titles that implement kernel-level anti-cheat, you want Windows simply for the fact that those games don't work on Linux. (yet)

If you're worried about Microsoft's increased need to collect your data and advertise to you, you'll have good reason to move to Linux. If you don't care, you can stick with Windows. There's also something to be said for familiarity. Linux isn't hard to use, contrary to what some will tell you, but it is different, and that can put some people off. If you've been using Windows all your life, Linux will certainly be an adjustment.
On Windows I can play ALL the games. On Linux I can't.

That's what matters.

I would love to game on linux but i had to put all my reliance of proton for stuff to work. So i will stuck to windows since i can just click & play.
If you're heavily into competitive multiplayer AAA games with kernel level capitalistic anticheat/DRM ♥♥♥♥ then stay on Windows...

If you like little indie devs/singleplayer games then Linux Is the way to go...

Sniper Elite 5 for example plays just fine under Linux... even its use of Easy Anti Cheat works flawlessly in coop...

Don't forget to use Proton...

Many =/= All games

It'd be pointless for me to switch to an inferior OS in terms of how many games I can play.

Me to
windows 7 for as long as I can keep it working. (still today.. we see about tomorrow)
in march firefox stops updating it's browser for win 7 so thats an issue..

beyond that it's not so much want.. as must..
they MAKE you drop windows 7...

and windows 10 and 11 is the biggest pile of privacy intruding crap you never ever want to use.
-> and with how "evil" microsoft has turned it seems unlikely that windows 12 or 13 will return to the standards set by windows xp and 7.. and restore legacy support for old software remove xbox support, restore the old menu & adminsitrator control, remove forced updates, remove that stupid "security thing" demand of windows 11 that makes it unable to run on older hardware.. and remove all the data collecting crap thats in it..

but as all that is unlikely to happen.. linux is the only way to go.. until microsoft gets the signal.. we will NOT use or buy their product until they change their ways back to windows xp/7 standard. and undo the made mistakes.

is that a choose we WANT to make.. no linux sucks.. it has worse drivers for modern hardware.. and thus gets less performance out of them.. (rtx is expecially tricky).. and you have to constantly "mess around" to get stuff to run properly.. basicly every installation turns into a chore of trial and error before it works.. somewhat..
---
but we can not and will not be lazy and surrender to the easy windows.. knowing what evils are tied with that path.. heck.,. I already stopped spending 700 euro per year to steam to send the same signal it is NOT ok to abandon os support like that.. without providing an alternative way to instal and play the games on the os I bought them on...
->
and while using gog likewise means you loose out on some titles and have a bit more work to get them to run (as they not always have been made compatable with modern os like steams.. and not all titles exist on gog... again you do it to send a signal to steam..

you will not see any revenue unless you change your wicket ways..

I never want and never will use windows 10 or 11.
and dropping os by steam without an alternative way to instal and play on that old os.. will never be accepted.

Linux, because Win 10 loses support at the end of the year, and Windows 11 is a train wreck and is spyware by design.
