Need Help with Community Ban on My Account [SOLVED]
Hello everyone,

I need some help because my Steam account was hit with a community ban some time ago, and I still can’t recover it. I believe I might have fallen victim to a report bot or something similar. I read an article about how such tools can easily get an account banned.

The community ban was placed on my account on May 16, 2023, right after I played a game with friends in the then-CS:GO. The day before, I received a comment saying:
" -rep u have bought acc right? chill bro 1-2 month and community banned i promise u ;) enjoy and buy next 19yrs acc."

Exactly the next day, on May 16, the ban was applied to my account, stating that the account might have been used by someone else and that access would be restricted until the rightful owner regains access. The problem is, I am the owner and the one who created this account.

This is actually the third time I’ve faced such a community ban. The first time, I managed to unlock the account right away. The second time, it took me 1.5 years to get it unbanned. Back then, I even created another Steam account, which is now 12 years old. However, two years ago, I faced another ban, and this time, I haven’t been able to lift it.

The main issue is that I don’t have the original CD key for the game associated with the account when it was created 21 years ago. I no longer have access to the email domain I used to create the account, so I had to change the email address, which has caused even more complications.

In the past, I’ve always been able to unlock my account by providing proof of payments made on it, such as receipts or bank statements. But now, that no longer seems to be enough.

Is there anything I can still do, or do I really have to wait until 2038 for the ban to expire? I’ve invested a lot of money into this account, from CS skins to games, and it holds so many memories for me. I’d really appreciate any advice since I’ve run out of ideas at this point.

Thank you in advance!

2038 is a placeholder date for permanent.

Just find the proof of ownership.

contact steam support, they are the only one that can assist you

How can this be a placeholder when it clearly states:

*"Your account has been blocked from participating in the Steam Community.
This suspension will be lifted on January 19, 2038, at 04:14 AM.

If you need to know more, check out support."*

How am I supposed to find the CD key when it’s been 21 years since the account was created, and I had no idea something like this would happen 20 years later?

I feel like you didn’t read everything and just replied after skimming through two sentences. Next time, please take the time to fully understand the text and provide a proper response that might actually help someone.

He's right. That year is a placeholder.

The only way to unlock the account is to supply the proof that support asks for.

Less posting and topic making and more reading.

This is not a game, You either give them the info they asked for or the account remains restricted.

How can this be a placeholder when it clearly states that the ban will be lifted at that time? It doesn’t say that the date will change or anything like that—it explicitly says that the ban will be lifted.

Okay, now I understand exactly what the whole 2038 issue is about, but it doesn’t make any sense. Couldn't they just say that the ban has no expiration date and won’t be lifted instead of stating that it will be lifted in 2038? That information is misleading for someone who doesn’t know how this works.

It's some quirk with the database unfortunately. But, I agree it should be communicated better.

The 2038 date is a placeholder due to digital limitations... the ban is permanent and will never expire.

There is no point in suing anyone; these are their security measures. I am not able to prove to them that I am the owner of the account.
It needs a bit of clarification it his third community ban on that account and with a third one it can't be appealed anymore the 3rd is permanent no matter what

Oh yeah?

I got five community bans, so far... I'm still not permanently banned. 🤷🏼‍♀️
