Dead Internet Theory and Steam Forums
As I think most people may be aware of the integration of bots on social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, and Reddit to an extent) and their appearance as real people, I am interested to know the Steam community’s thoughts on the discussions/posts/reviews/comments on the platform. Are there more bots posting content in these forums than real people?

Some of the topics really throw me for a loop. I know there’s a lot of award farming and trolling, but I find it hard to believe that humans are actually posting the majority of content on Steam these days

People are weary of friends only / private profiles. Unfortunately they are common settings for trolls and alt account users

Ironic as you brag about setting your profile so its hidden from public view, which as you claim is a common setting for trolls and alt accounts...

I set most of my profile to friends only precisely because of trolls and data miners.

So that means you would call yourself a troll or alt account if you use that logic. Gotta love the lack of logic. Friends only accounts are trolls, unless its you and then a friends only account is to PROTECT against trolls....
lol...

OK, first off, I was not "bragging".

next, if you would actually read all the comments before posting, you would see that I also said "there is no right way to do it", and as you can see, not all of my profile is friends only.

And finally, I did not say any private or friends only profile is a troll profile, I said it is a "common" setting for troll accounts.

Next time, take a breath and think about what was said instead of making asinine knee-jerk reaction posts.

If they're not bots, I still dont think they care about it. They act like toxic polyannas, or burnt out tech supports, only to disrupt threads and advertise gamepass.

Of course one way to filter out bots would be to have a reliable and working block function, with for example blocklists features. Something Valve always failed to provide. But what could be expected from a company who, by greed, neglect and incompetence, allowed underage gambling and harbouring fascists.

But they'll rather let it rot untill forced to shut it down completely.

Put that in perspective with the old Gabe Newell parroting Musk while interviewed about their work on brain machine interfaces. Who's going to be crazy enough to open their skull and install some Valve implant for augmented videogames, when they're not even competent enough to maintain and moderate their forums?
I would love a proper block system, as would quite a few other people as it is one of the more asked for functions.

The trolls however fear this, as it would quickly cause them to become extinct, until they created a new account, but then that one would soon follow suit.

In the meantime, I just block and ignore.

As should be expected. The more time some one sinks into something, the more likely they are to care about it. I guess the question would be, what can actually be done about it? If you like engaging in these forums, what can we do to incentivize real human engagement and filtering of bots without intrusive privacy breaching factor authentication measures?

A proper blocking system would solve the issue.

Current block system works fine, unfortunately people have weak willpower.

This is one of the reasons I like Epic, GOG, and other launchers.....no BS social media style profiles. If I had the choice, I would have nothing more than my library, friends list, and the workshop.

I mean you express a desire to not use the forums, as you want a client without one, yet keep coming to use it. You don't want social media profiles, yet you've taken time to create quite a lot of BS on yours.

If you actually stuck to your claims of what you want and just made your profile private instead of making it visible to the public with all your claims and using it for "BS Social Media" as you put it, it sounds like you'd be happier.

But hey, your profile is friends only, and lets not forget

sigh.....

Current block system is useless.

As it is now even if you block someone, their posts are visible if quoted.

Sure, there are those that block people only to click on the "show" link, but that's not everyone. Personally, I almost never do it, though sometimes I get curious. Even then I typical just look at who made the comment and nothing more.

I never said anything about not wanting the forums, not a single word.

Fact is, my profile has nothing to do with the forums, just as all my other launchers have nothing to do with the Discords I use.

By social media BS I mean things like, badges, awards, custom texts, cards, jewels, etc.

I'm perfectly fine with profile pics/avatars as that's something that's been around since long before STEAM. Same goes for artwork and screen shots.

The parts of my profile that I set as "friends only" are the parts that, as far as I'm concerned, are of no business to anyone other than myself and my friends.

You really need to stop with the straw-man arguments....seriously, your're not fooling anyone.

And with that, this conversation is over.

Hence where there most basic level of willpower comes into play. if your incapable of not reading words when you can see who the person who said them is then that is a personal deficiency on your part.

I mean lack of willpower is also evident in the inability to have an actual discussion without resorting to insults, accusations of straw manning, etc. Your free to leave the conversation, in fact it sounds like based on how easily you get triggered by seeing someone's words that you should really stop using the public forums.

However you don't get to dictate to me when a conversation is over. Your free to leave if you can't engage in a civil discourse.

.

Also ironically we know that is false because of the amount of custom text spam on your profile. You do indeed use the social media BS, while at the same time attacking others.

A lot of misinformation and misrepresentation on their bio.

Ironic no?
